Why do HE tank rounds not do splash damage

Why can I land a round a millimetre from an enemy and nothing happens? I shoot into a building and no one is affected?

Any gun, lol. Developers can’t do explosive damage properly, even when shooting into a wall behind the back of a squad of infantry you might not kill anyone.

Did the HE bounce? If yes then that is your reason
If no then just good old fashioned net code or a bug most likely.

and then you aim for direct shoot and somehow whole squad is wiped out even though they’re far away from each other

Nothing wrong with my 88 and 76/75. you just need aim properly on obsticle. or aim enemy soldier ez splash

Some building walls just seam to just eat all the fragmentation like crazy especially those in moscow maps. I very much feel your pain there too.

there are so many tanks who have bad HEs… Valentine… Matilda… M3 Grant (37mm)
and many more… only useable as anti tank tank

If it’s smaller than a 75mm then you pretty much need direct hits

HE rounds often bounce on hard surfaces, and it is common for HE to be unable to cause damage when shooting on the ground.

Only when your shell directly hits the soldier model will it have good splashing, and the splashing range obtained by shooting obstacles is completely unpredictable.

50mm is when you start to hit multiple with small HE splash. Ok if you directly hit infantry. Anything below 50mm is unreliable. 75mm HE things start to get devastating. A direct infantry hit does the most damage with HE splash. Second best shot is a direct hit next to targets but at an angle to avoid ricocheting. This mechanic may be frustrating but it’s there to make tank play rewarding and not too easy

Shells in this game have way more simulation going on than any other, so things like shooting the ground in front of you in HLL, SQUAD, BF etc. just works, but in enlisted if the angle is too steep it will ricochet off to africa, same for buildings walls etc. You need to find good solid back drops like a wall, a mound of dirt etc. to bank off of, shooting soldiers directly is always the best option, use your coax MG to kneecap a soldier, then they cant move and become an easy target for your HE to bloom.

As of late I’ve been noticing that if it hits a wall, it doesn’t really do splash damage. However if it detonates upon impacting the GROUND, then it does.

Otherwise, the only time that it actually does its full effect radius is when it direct hits someone.

I do think this is something that needs to be addressed.

Too op I guess. I always see this as balance or else every he shell will be equal to a grenade

i mean as someone who use a lot of 75/76mm and 85mm and sometime 105mm yea shell dont seem to have any shrapnel so luck i guess

tank HE is too op when consistently dealing splash damage but panzerfaust 60/100 or plane with 250kg bombs that can 1hk tanks from any range are fine… nice one mate

Depending on the surface the HE hits, it can be bugged while it should always be consistent , for example here’s the full radius of a IS-2 HE shell (Blue is fragments, yellow is the blast wave)


Don’t hit wood as the shell will always do no damage
You can guarantee fragments doing their work by directly shooting at humans.
Also, don’t hit the ground at a 5 degree angle otherwise the shell will ricochet
