literally all you can do is wait for them to land while they drop on the capture point
You actually can shoot them mid-air. However, you have to compensate for bullet drop and their speed.

dude I tried shooting them with a mg34 when they were really close to the ground but I couldnt do any damage until they were fully on the ground
MGs have a ridiculous amount of bullet dispersion applied on them. Iād suggest you try AA guns to kill paratroopers

Paratrooper AI jump from 500 m, they start their open chute animation at 300 m and immediately start to decelerate then fall at a constant speed.
The total time from jumping to feet on the ground is 17 s, 10 s of acceleration and 7 s of constant descend.
I calculated the vertical speed of the falling para in a replay to give a rough estimate, at their fastest they fall at 228 kph at 300 m, and 41 kph constant descend from 80 m.

So ideally if there are nothing to block your sight you have 7 s to try to shoot a target moving in 3 axis. Even .50 cal require more than 1 hit to put them in the down state while theyāre in the air. They fall way too fast.

this, and you also have to take into account the map since building and clutter can obstruct your view thus leaving you with 5s to shoot at 7 soldiers that are slightly separated and can withstand almost 3 shots from common guns.
You can shoot them, the guns I find work best for the job are the AA guns, the HMGs, the 1919, and then the Ross rifle for some reason. As other stated, it just takes correcting for drop and accounting for dispersion. For the latter, learn to fire in controlled bursts for full auto weapons and for the latter, learn to lead paratroopers both when they are free falling and have the chute open.
Ive sniped half the squad in the air with a bolty. Certainly works

Yeah, cuz sniping fast moving target with smg really isnāt the most effective thing to do.
But as you could see, itās still very much possible.

Killed already several mid-air. Difficult, I admit but feasable.
Flying through them with a propeller is fun and works, but you donāt get the kill, just a big X hehe

I thought about that especially with the airplanes that spawn on the ground on the Airfield map.
