Why can I not get splash damage when I am in a tank

Hi…I am wondering why when I shoot dead on to an infantry man with a tank shell I cannot get any Splash damage even if I am no more than 20 feet away …It is like the only way I can kill is the machine gun…What am I doing wrong??

Check if you are using HE shell and not APHE.

Even using AP rounds you should be able to kill enemy troops that are nearby the guy you actually hit with one, more or less the same thing with HE, HE is in general very very very NERFED, and now that they have dramatically neutered the German machine guns often it’s easier to kill guys with the main gun, with British tanks it’s much easier because you can for the machine gun for much longer periods of time

Only if it’s very powerful APHE.

He’s a new player so he might be using weak APHE and weak HE.

I had a similar problem with tanks when I started, so much that I ignored them until I had unlocked the Tiger on Normandy.

I was using the HE shells , the shot when firing at the ground that seemed spot on, but no one was dying. In the end I went to the practice range, took a tank and tried to take out the human sized targets in the same way, I had the same problem. It was only when I got out the tank and looked at the craters up close I had created, I realised how far off they actually were from where I thought they were, I realised my mistake made a few pixel change in my aiming and the problem was resolved.

If you’re using a tank with a long barrel it’s HE is harder to hit the right spot on the ground with due to the speed of the shell.

My tip is to shoot in Commander view or directly shoot soldier.

Also depends on the tank, if m5 Stuart it is very weak HE

Sometimes I can’t kill infantry with 122mm he of is2, but sometimes I can kill more than a dozen at once. It makes me confused

In my experience what you need to do is hit one of the soldiers with the round, because for some reason hitting near them does not work

THank you to all that have responded…I have tried everything as I am a new player but it just causing me frustration as the tanks I am in are terrible in Stalingrad,Berlin and even Normandy…I get killed within 2 minutes of being in the tank…I know I am new and have to grind but honestly if I shot the correct round and hit the guy and nothing happens I don’t have the patience to keep trying with no luck…

Over 75mm APHE are hilariously more effective on infantry direct-hits than you would think, that bursting charge aint no joke.

It’s almost impossible to accurately judge how close your rounds are exploding to your target due to lack of parallax or perspective, the velocity and angle-of-attack of the shell.

Changing your aim by just a few degrees can have a dramatic effect on the impact point on a flat plane parallel to the gun.

The most likely explanation is that you aren’t hitting as close as you think you are.

THank you again for the responses…I have 2 other questions about tanks…

  1. How do you brake the tank?..I can never seem to stop…I always continue to either roll forward or back…It says to use W or S but that just keeps me moving
  2. How do you aim the gun so it does not move all over the place…I hit shift when I am trtying to lock opn a target but it just keeps moving all over the place…

if you press to much S you go in reverse if you press to much W you go forward, find the right amount to completely stop
