For BR5 there are no decent options for soviets IMO. They don’t even seem to have BRIV attacker at all?
Best ground attacker is the BR2 P40 lmao:
- 2 separate bomb drops, each strong enough to kill any german tank on their own - you can get 2 vehicle kills per “sortie” (IL10 only gets 1 drop)
- it’s fast (-ish, compared to most other attackers at least, especially the heavier IL2 versions) , so the “sorties” happen more often
- has enough legs/engine/maneuverability to defend itself against anything, given the enemy pilot is not great, especially if you ditch the bombs when needed
- you aren’t in a sensory deprivation chamber, unlike the IL10 - you can actually see out of the damn thing, and not being stuck at the bottom of a trash can looking up
- it’s power/weight/energy retention actually means you can loiter over the battlefield, spot tanks/infantry blobs and also maneuver in a way that lets you line up tanks sitting in cover strong enough to protect them from sloppy bombs - you can easily line up for a Kigor sitting in some side alley between buildings for example - something that takes forever in most other tungsten bricks that other attackers are
I guess the only downside is lack of cannons, so strafing is out - racking up a massive killfeed with just cannons feels way too good and I always miss that, plus, in BR5 most tanks don’t really seem to take much damage from whatever belts are in the P40. Even the “armored” APCs are a bit hit or miss (at least last time I played soviets lol)
Oh, and wrastlin’ the damn thing gives you carpal tunnel lmao - really likes to torque roll(?)/partially stall(?) or something when maneuvering hard. It seems to compress REALLY BADLY too (I guess that’s the word? If you dive with full throttle 90% of the time you will crash lol) But hey, it makes it more…interesting to play
Both USA and Germany have way danker stuff. Japan attacker category is SHAMEFUR DISPRAY right now (especially considering all of them are carrier based and take absolutely forever to take off and get to any usable altitude, unless you remembered to write a death poem)

They are br 3 (I think?) But can reliably be used in br 5 to great effect. The one with canons can even rip a KT(H) 
Most players underestimate them because it’s not written “br 5” beside them.
Soviets got great cas, and don’t suffer at all in truth.
But, ofc, I wouldn’t mind EVEN MORE cas planes! Because there’s never enough. They’re fun. They’re just not direly needed like many claim

I used to love racking up massive killfeeds by shooting that greenhouse cap zone with the big cannons. Blowing tanks with them is also hella funn…they are decent bomb trucks, but they don’t turn and don’t climb. You cannot really maneuver much in them before you are barely afloat and they will get wrecked if any mildly capable enemy pilot comes around. Or someone builds a flak. Or just shoots you with their infantry guns. Or the tank driver is smarter than “let me find the biggest, most obvious, wide open flat ground and sit there unmoving until I die” and instead uses cover and moves
But isn’t that the case for cas of all factions (except usa. Usa got astounding cas)?
- Japan got really mediocre cas. Very nimble sure. Just ok payload. But that’s it.
- axis got decent cas. Ju is fat with even fater payload, but it’s also a fat target
- Sovs are between the two. Not as fat payload as axis, not as nimble as Japan, but fantastic all rounder.
Usa is exception. Their cas is fantastic. But their fighters are just ok.
IL 2-37 is one of the most satisfying ground strikers in the game IMO

The P-47 is good enough of a fighter to actually contest actual fighters. It’s definitely good enough to completely shut down enemy air if they didn’t bring real fighters. It’s good enough to fight AA guns with it. It’s stupidly fast. It carries 2000 megatons of ordnance.
Ju-188 is plenty fast and also carries stupid amounts of bombs and it’s gunners are actually a threat. Plus it turns stupidly good for what it is. You also have the 410, which is WAY faster and agile than the any of the later IL models (the cannons are a bit meh, but the tanks it faces are more submissive and pennable from the top, so it evens out) You get the Fw 190 D-12, which is stupidly hard to use right (gotta be way more patient vs any other plane), but is also capable of contesting the air at least somewhat, gets the bop machine and separate bomb drops
Russian CAS is just crappy garbage trucks lol. Load ↔ drop ↔ repeat
Literally, for when I need to do CAS stuff to win the game, 99% of the time the P40 is my first choice
