Why are tanks so slow?

Most tanks i use seem to be slower than soldiers walking, even though its maxed out. Along with that i hit other tanks over 20 times and they hit me once and im brown bread. Is this normal?

Yes, it’s even real. Tanks at that time had relatively weak engines. Some passenger cars from today have more horsepower than tanks from World War 2.

What does weak mean? They need a really long straight and good road to accelerate to top speed.

If you don’t want to lose too much speed, instead of braking, manually control the gearbox - this will allow you to accelerate faster between shooting and maneuvering.

Use manual gears, it’s more faster than auto gear

Tank slow, coz it heavy.
Heavy things are rare fast.

Look at planes-planes are light and fast.

They are tanks.
Tanks are usually large, heavy, metal vehicles.
And back then engines weren’t super powerful.
So it makes sense that some tanks are slow.

Also as a general rule, heavy tanks are the slowest, medium tanks are somewhat slow, and light tanks are really fast.

Not all tanks were really that slow the M18 was pretty fast for a tank for example, and the armored cars were generally quiet fast for the time, but in game not so much I find, the halftracks should also be pretty fast, but I think a lot of the idea behind the speed of these things in game is neuter them a tad to make them easer for the infantry to kill.

big nerf, same as cannon power. df thinks mobile tanks would be too strong/wanna sell premium tanks that are faster.

The BT-7 has a max speed of 55 km/h instead of 72 km/h, that is a sin that cannot be forgiven.

Maximum speed
Road: 72–86 km/h (45–53 mph)
Off-road: 50 km/h (31 mph)

It’s completely right. There’s huge difference between max speed on road and on terrain.

Does going manual add controls? Is that option feasible on a console controller?

Yes, you need add to you Pad
-autogear button
-Gear Up
-Gear down

i dont know if its worth it Xbox/Playstation, but you can try!

Appreciate the answer. Unfortunately probably not an option with how many buttons are already in use, thanks though

while i know that the tanks are slower then they shouldbe, the maps would not really be able to handle it

But they aren’t :)))

I dont mind soo much the speed they have chosen ingame (except on light tanks). I more dislike small obsticles that either stop, bump or cause the tank to stick to it. It should just push through it like its nothing or crush it like a bug.

Exacly what I was gonna say. A freaking tiny tree branch will stop a Tiger like wtf

Except even on road it behaves like offroad.

I wonder if all tanks have offroad max speeds. It would be nice to know that this “nerfed” speed is not an arbitrary number.
