Where are the Romanian, Italian, and Hungarian Squads in Stalingrad?

First off I’d like to congratulate the devs on the great new campaign which fits nicely into the game, I have spent dozens of hours in it already. However one of the things that I was expecting with the new Hungarian gun and Romanian Vehicles (as well as the previous inclusion of Italy in Tunisia) that what would make Stalingrad distinct from Moscow and Berlin would be its inclusion of Axis minor nations which played a major role in the battle for Stalingrad. Currently for the Romanian planes there aren’t even Romanian pilots but just German ones, what is even the point of that then? As for the Italians there couldn’t even be just one squad or so of reused assets from Tunisia?

Same place as the British and Canadian squads in Normandy I guess. Seems pretty cheap to just add the weapons of these countries and not add a single squad of soldiers in with them

In a perfect Enlisted world I would love to see nation subtrees to unlock

I know some customization faces are (will?) Be for Hungarian and/or Romanian soldiers. You can choose many faces with mustaches and beards that Hungarian soldiers commonly had (from some quick 5 minute research I did).

So… It is my hope that BECAUSE those assests are present already that we WILL have said squads. Hoping for it anyway…

The one on the right is manlier; he sports a manly stach. Also I want whatever lmg he got.

Again, the one on the right is manlier thanks to his manly stach. Which is why the left Kiraly holding assaulter looks intimidated: he doesn’t have a stach.

That means you did a lot of research in internet terms

That one is mighty Hungarian Paratrooper!

Only mighty when sporting a noble mustache. He does not, so in Hungarian nazi terms, he must be inferior.

Here’s two cool buddies playing with a captured Russian tamagochi. Since those had very tiny screens, especially in the 40s , the guy holding it and trying to play had to squint a lot, and looking silly doing so. Looking silly during that era was punishable by firing squad in nazi Hungary, BUT sporting a noble stach gave immunity. You cannot look silly if you sport a well groomed mustache.

I’m all for including representation of minor factions, but before that.

A squad in short sleeve shirts and shorts whit a cap or a tropical helmet would have probably feel a bit out of place lol.

A major role may be an overstatement, they were used to guard the flank and weren’t good at it, not because of any lack of fighting spirit or capability, but because they were neglected by their high command and were not given what they needed to put a proper defense in place.

And German tanks from a very German Panzer Division have Italian crew in Tunisia, it’s ridiculous.
That’s why imo campaigns should have one nation facing an other, with each only their own equipment (at least as much as possible).
So neither US nor German troops in Tunisia, but neither British nor Italian weapon in Normandy.
Because otherwise end up with what we can clearly see in both of those campaigns today : a ridiculous mashup of uniform equipment and soldiers nationality which take away the uniqueness of each campaigns and make things even less realistic than if they weren’t in the campaign at all.

However I think there is ways to implement squads from those minor nations without having the mess in Tunisia and (at a lesser extend) in Stalingrad.

So for Stalingrad and using mechanics already in game :

Premium squads

Pros :

  • Allows to give proper uniforms, names and voices more representing of those minor nations, so their are not just used to add diversity to unlocks.
  • Prevent their weapons to be used by anybody else, thus preserving their uniqueness.
  • Make them more rare, which was historically true, while still being playable.
  • Can be accessed at any time.

Cons :

  • Are not free, so not accessible to everyone.

Event reward squads :

Pros :

  • Allows to give proper uniforms, names and voices more representing of those minor nations, so their are not just used to add diversity to unlocks.
  • Prevent their weapons to be used by anybody else, thus preserving their uniqueness.
  • Make them more rare, which was historically true, while still being playable.
  • Are free.

Cons :

  • Only available for a limited time, which isn’t great for obvious reasons.

But as mentioned this proposal is restricted to current mechanics in the game.
But I think it’s still better than what we have today which makes nobody happy :
Those who want consistency and historical accuracy are annoyed to see this mashup.
While those who would like more of this minor nations are frustrated to see what looks like a job half done and those minor nations being used as a token to have more diverse equipment, without actually doing anything more.

This would actually be fantastic and stop people from getting burned out quickly using the same equipment and squads constantly

What could be cool is that some maps would specially be dedicated to a contingent : a map where you can play only Italia (or romania) against russians. All the squads will be romanians for example against russia.

I want to see them

I thought they said they were not adding premiums to Stalingrad ?\

I really don’t know why they didn’t just add the orita 1941 into the progression tree.

Theoretically a good idea, and it would allow to properly have Great Britain in Normandy and th US in Tunisia instead of the mishmash but how would it be implemented in the game ? (I’m not trying to be annoying, I’m genuinely asking because it could mean many things).

If we use Romania as an exemple.

  • Is it “just” a cosmetic change, where on certain maps the same squads have for exemple Romanian uniforms and voices ?
Because it would have the same problem but reversed. And we wouldn’t actually have Romanian squads and it wouldn’t be really compatible with the recently (and quite badly) implemented customization system.
And you would be able to choose when you play with who because we can’t choose maps.

  • Or would it be a sort of parallel Romanian campaign with its own soldiers with Romanian names, weapons and uniform ?
Because as much as I’m for it, this would be a hell of a job because it means a new campaign tree with all the balancing etc, and idk enough about the Romanian armed forces in WWII to know if they would have enough stuff to make a fully fledged 40-50 levels campaign.
It’s far from impossible but I’m not sure the devs and especially the executive will think it’s worth it.
And even if I don’t think it matters, this would mean more content for a faction in a campaign, making one more appealing than the other and having some other balance repercussions.
