When you have a stupid idea but it sounds good (Spanish Civil war)

The Spanish Civil war Campaign

Sides:
Republicans (government, aided by U.S.S.R), Nationalists (Rebels, aided by Nazi Germany and Italy)

Locations:
Battle of Ebro: It was the biggest and longest battle of the Spanish civil war making a good idea for map/battle location

Here is a picture of the landscape, Its a mountain-y terrain and very dry:

Siege of Madrid (The nationalists would be the attacking side) This would be a good choice since it was a long battle and different to the mountain wilderness of the Battle of Ebro as it would be completely urban.

Weapons:
(the weapons could be mostly the same since its a civil war and the rebelling side would use captured weapons)

I couldn’t find whether the nationalists were given these planes for the war but in the source for republican planes, its said these were captured so I believe these will be ok to add.

I realize this isn’t WW2 , but I think it could be a very neat campaign, Imo I think it’ll be better if it were only infantry fighting, and not support by vehicles.

True, it would be somewhat different than what we have here today - no semi auto guns, weaker vehicles and (I think) mor mountainous maps.

Actually, I really like that idea.

As for the planes, the nationalists had ‘volunteers’ from Germany though I don’t know if they were flown by Spanish nationals who fought for Franco. Could be like Tunisia where most of the squads are Spaniards, with a few German squads sprinkled in.

Cool idea. I myself would replace the BT-5 though, as it might be a bit strong in comparison to the L3 and Pz1.

If I’m remembering Antony Beevor’s The Battle for Spain correctly, the Germans were indeed piloting aircraft in combat operations (the Condor Legion) alongside the Spanish forces under Franco. I mean beyond the Stukas and Heinkels.

To the surprise of no one, the Germans were keeping the “best planes” for their pilots, of course.

I think they were also using that other popular euphemism, “advisors.”

A GOOD NEW UNIT:

The Blue Division (la heróica La División Azul)
