What's the point of adding Panzer IV /70 (A)?

WTF Gajin

The Pz IV /70 is so much worse than the Panther G in every single regard, it has lower armor, almost no tower movement, less ammo and is also slower. And it’s supposed to be unlocked at lvl 22 of campaign? This isn’t a Tank Destroyer at all. Tank Destroyers should, by default destroy tanks! This tank can’t deal with infantry, or at least is 10x worse than Panther G in that regard. Seeing that the Pz IV /70 is lower in height than the latter, it will have even more trouble penetrating enemy tanks, making it practically useless and dead weight in battles.

I think adding higher mm shells and buffing up it’s armor by a lot would serve it justice and make it actually worth playing, and even then it’d be situational since it’s just so bad at taking down Infantry. Anyways I hope this will be fixed soon enough because right now I don’t see why this tank exists in the game other than doing some fanservice.

Probably its low profile, 42 mg, higher penetration?

And the su 85m is no better,it does not have a machine gun at all…

Try to play on the range on the t34 and shoot a panther and a panzer and maybe you will see the difference.

It’s still 7.92 mm and it has less ammo.

The low profile is probably the only advantage it has, but it’s clearly not enough to drag this TD out of it’s grave.

Well, I hope that at least the su 85m will be able to punch a panther in the forehead.

maybe because it has more armor slope than the previous tank so it can deflect more bullet…

Just filler content with zero use in urban combat like the Berlin campaign

the reason why adding " subjectively " worse tanks, weapons and other stuff, is for a few reasons:

A. include more content for that campaign.
B. increase levels of the campaign ( translated in, more grind. and therefore, people buy or grinding for it )
and lastly,
C. having something different to " get the job done ".

weather they are all similar, they still matters between each other.

speaking for the Panzier IV/70, doesn’t have to be necessarely better. it’s just different.
also, it has a low profile, and somewhat, minor weakspots considering the Panther.

Similar? This shit’s 10x worse than the Panther. At least make people want to play as the Pz IV, because right now it’s like choosing to nade a tank with a Smoke grenade instead of an Explosive Pack.

not really, the majority of berlin maps are a straight foward road ( in the majority of case. ) as such, you can simply " wiggle " and eat shells without dying. your opponents ( unlike the counter part SU which can do the same ) most of the time will hit & bounce your armor, unless they know your weak spot.

and that’s all.

it’s a bit harder to kill.

i’m sorry, but you can’t trash talk something that you haven’t tested.

I Think they added the A version instead of the regular Jagdpanzer IV especially because it is “higher”.

The regular one would most likely have a too low profile, making it too difficult to play on berlin ( lots of rubbish and destroyed cars sitting everywhere)

but since the A version has the bad weak spot it is indeed much worse than the panther. If the regular jagdpanzer IV would be playable, than it might be a “alternative” but still a bit worse cuz no turret and less anti infantry power.
Same goes for the SU-85.

At this moment the only reason to ever use these vehicles would be to give them a own crew, maybe the devs reconsider this.

Completely agree. The Panzer IV /70 A sucks in every way.

The A model is much taller and has much worse armor configuration. Flat armor plate right on the front that is easy to hit, the entire bottom front is also easy to penetrate, knocking out your driver and transmission in one go. Which in a casemate tank is about as good as being dead.

If it was a V model it would fare way better, it’s both much smaller and angled everywhere on the front, making frontal penetrations much harder. It’s also lighter, so it would have a better mobility.

Over the Panther G, it has less overall ammunition (60 shots vs 82 for the panther), worse armor, no turret, tiny amount of MG ammo (over 4500+ rounds on the Panther, only 600 for the IV/70 A). And i bet it has a worse mobility to the current PZ .IV J, which is already low, since it weight more but has the same engine.

The equivalent Su-85M on the Russian side is much better on all accounts, with a good angled frontal armor and much better mobility.

The T-34-85 are a huge pain the ass to deal with. They often glitch, with the turret pointing in an entirely different direction than they are actually looking and they bounce the German HV 75mm guns like they are nothing. I tried it in War Thunder, the T-34-85 can easily be penetrated frontally, on both the chassis and the turret frontally.

Meanwhile, they can delete any PZ. IV coming their way, although they have a bit more difficulty with the Panther.

So yeah. The PZ. IV/70 A suck ass big time. Anybody saying the opposite is disingenuous. Panther is better in every single way, and it’s SU-85M is much better overall.
