I thought it was neat back in the day to build an aa turret by a choke point and be relatively protected by the gun shield and lay waste to anyone who dared go in front of me. But it seemed toxic, so I didn’t do it much. Other than that, I don’t see why the AA gun shouldn’t be limited to only being used for AA duty.
Back in the day AA guns would also instantly blow up when hit with a single AT rifle round.
So they weren’t broken back in the day.
Problem was that:
- Damage model was bugged. Sometimes AA gun died from one AT rifle shot, sometimes from 10.
- Shield often blocked shots that should kill the gunner. (Damage model was bugged 2.0)
- They could pen through every number of wooden walls. Nobody would mind if bullets went through a wall or two, but not through the whole damn village.
- (Imo) Engineer buildings appear out of nowhere. There should be a visual notification “enemy is building something here”.
(I’m speaking from experience from moscov campaign.)
Since 1, 2 and 3 are not a case any more (at least I hope as I didn’t check), imo AA could get back their anti infantry capabilities.
AA guns were frequently used on ground targets in ww2. The current restriction is SNAFU.
People want to use them against infantry because >20mm gun VS infantry is cool.
Not really. Since overheat mechanic can often very harsh. I think rhey should reduce it by a lot.
Plus current AA wouldn’t be much useful against infantry. Because of very limited ammunition.
Constantly refilling it would so annoying…
But I am quite glad engineers structures aren’t better than its squad counterparts.
AT guns aren’t better than tanks, AA weapons aren’t better than SPAA and planes.
At least engineer squad isn’t that OP as it could be (not mentioning that basically every premium squad is engineer squad as well. Except old ones with non premium engineer)
Well yes, but when you saw a quad AA indoors it sucked and you couldn’t help to think that it shouldn’t be this way. NOW, since the update in which you cannot depress the AA gun low enough to engage infantry, this problem has mitigated somewhat.
The main problem with the AA guns was EVERYONE getting a quad barrel flakvierling with a gun shield. Especially when you consider that there were unshielded variants of it.
I think at this point it would be fine for any gun that was capable of depressing fully to be able to since the operator is now unprotected.
Yeah my issue was you would see like 3 or 4 of them just chewing up anything that moved out of the spawns haha. I have built a few of the new ones in a way they could target infantry in some spots (quarry map one i remember), and they are still pretty strong vs infantry killing in one hit as mentioned though the low ammo count hurts and only one shot per firing now. Having tried them this way I’d say even with being able to turn 360o the HMG fill the role they used to play much better now.
I don’t miss seeing them built indoors or blocking doorways anymore either.
When they artificially restricted this, another interesting feature of the game was lost.
I would love to see it back, especially since quads are gone
& they were getting spammed like crazy.
Maps like the quarry became essentially tanks & flakvierlings duels when 4+ players were just building aa guns constantly…
I would rather approach it from the perspective of giving engineer 1 also the regular MG nest and increasing the build limit of those to 2.
Anti-aircraft guns can be used as a weapon against ground units, provided they have sufficient ammo supplies and are facing an emergency.
Banning players from doing this through crappy angle restrictions is silly.
Such an angle never existed in reality. You have an enemy in front of you and you can’t lower your gun? There are few such things in reality.
If they are to guide the player correctly they should increase the build cost and build time of the AA guns, allowing the player to decide for themselves what they should use and when.
Instead of nerfing everything, such crappy things, too many happing in this game.
Recently there have been a few times where I’m fighting planes with AA guns and they fly too low for me to shoot when it would’ve been an otherwise perfect attack.
AA guns were basically “nerfed” when they became all single barrel 20mm guns and having limited ammo. I think they could allow AA guns to have full traversal again
AA guns were used against infantry during the war, but in the game with limited ammo it will probably be niche because you have to balance fighting the sky and the ground. Plus AA guns are easy targets for tanks
AA guns firing at ground targets was a farce. Every game was AA guns spamming away on both sides. It was pointless using anything else. Some of you may miss harvesting easy kills like that but the rest of us would like to play properly, thank you.
