If its not a submachine gun, how am I supposed to do any tasks with it?
its classified as an assault rifle in game.
if you have a task for smg kills it wont count, so just swap them out or play a different campaign or something

I mean in game weapon stats, open a mp43 in-game and see stats, it stated sub-machine gun last time I checked it
