For example, my Normandy 101’ Airborne squad is based on Easy Company: 2 engineers with Garands, 2 assaulters with stens(to be replaced by Thompsons), 1 assaulter with a grease gun, 1 with an M2A1 carbine meant to represent a standard para m1 carbine, and a BAR Gunner.
my favorite historical/RP squad is tiger E squad with commander, gunner, driver, loader and radioman.
Any rifle squad with one MG, one engineer, one AT (or radio if AT weapons are shit (like AT rifles for the most part)) equipped mostly with BA rifles. In later campaigns larger presence of SA rifles but BA are still dominant. Filled to max with troops.
probably would be my volkstrum squad in berlin, the squad has 4 assaulters with mp40s, mp3008, an a single mp43 with shotgun secondaries, 1 engineer with a kreigsmodel, a bomber with a g43k and panzerfaust 100 and a riflemen with a low level weapon (i think it was normal g43 but it could easily be the VG2)
Every time I told myself “In this new campaign, I will make an historical squad”.
And Everytime I end up with the most toxic OP cheated composition.
It’s not my fault, I really tried.
Well, that’s what the game promotes, isn’t it.
I think my personal favorite is what I call “American chads” in Tunisia is the first riflemen squad. They all have M1 Garand besides one guy with a 1903A4 Springfield and one with a 1918A2 BAR.
Though honestly I try to make all my squads as historical as possible.
Majority of my my Germans use K98. My assaulter squad is a “panzergrenadier” squad so they get G41/G43s. In Berlin all the SS squads get G43 or other weapons because they always had the best weapons.
Though sadly for Germany I can’t take a LMG and SMG for riflemen squad (besides Stalingrad) so the squad leader gets G41/G43 Kurtz to attempt to represent a MP40.
My Brit’s all use Lee Enfields.
Italians use carcanos.
All Americans use M1 Garands or M1 Carbines (besides pacific because marines.)
Almost all Russians use Mosin Nagants.
Japs use arisakas.
I also have a German squad armed with MAS36 and MP35, but with 1 MP40 and 1 MG34. Basically sort of a second line “police” unit called up to the front with a “military liaison”.
nothing but engineers
My late-game Axis Tunisia setup includes the starting assaulter squad because it’s German and I like their uniforms (They’re the only infantry squad that has them, the only other one I know of is the Tanker III Squad) but since all the Assaulter IIIs are Italian and using M38s I imagine they are Legione SS Italiana.
Then I’ve got the AB-41 squad which I don’t really use, but I painted their AB-41 solid Gray-Green to match the uniforms. They are the only squad I’ve located in the game which changes their uniforms when you put the German Tanker IIIs in the squad.
And then the final thing that comes to mind is that in Stalingrad I give all of the crew of Lend Lease aircraft Thompsons.
( still waiting for uniforms on this one above though… )
( why squads are different between one and another? cuz i don’t use them that much due to grind reasons. but i still love them )
“croatian” squad
panzergrenadiers ( not in stalingrad. but i liked the look and the only one available currently in the game with camo. why one dude does not wear camo helmet? i’m poor, and i was waiting for hairs to be introduced… )
zee big kat from 2nd panzer division: ( even though they never saw the normandy up until the ardennes
panzer g from the 24th panzer company:
for the axis, and for the allies of noticeable ( since i’m still grinding most of them )
i’ve got:
60th enginner battalion:
flametrooper squad:
conscripts 1941(ish)
( and few others, but either are dismantled or currently in pieces because of lacking weapons to give. i have only so much time to play them all… )
I like having one assaulter/medic in every German squad as MP-40 serving as squad leader.
