What is this odd "circle" in vehicle aiming sight?

Bikes, planes, tanks, all vehicles have this circle. It neither points where you’re aiming, nor represent the center of your screen. So, what does it do? It is completely negative to your aiming, can I turn that off?

I think its to make it easier to see where youre looking at with free look

Then that’s close to useless. It brings more confusion.

yeah lol I used to shoot thinking that was the aiming sight for planes and tanks

Yeah, it is kinda sorta useful with gunners on bombers. It does help with marking targets from a plane…but it’s not super useful in general.

A mouse cursor

Pic 1: on a plane it shows the center of the screen (on some planes the white circle will turn grey after dropping some bombs)
Pic 2: the circle is not supposed to be there, I dont have it

since you “can” use your mouse to steer…it shows you were your mouse is. (where your plane is going to center)

useful, especially when combined with free look and other controls.

Id imagine you would struggle with precision and make alot of over corrections without it.

Secondary also useful for judging lead when you are on target. (relative to lead indicator)

On some u.s. vehicles it actually is for your aim. We dont get the crosshair on a few 50cal guns that all other nations get unless I’m just completely blind. But it’s a huge disadvantage. Is like that on the xa38 and the lvta

Yup, that’s Gaijin.

Pic1. If you use a customed crosshair, you will find out that the circle is not the center of your screen. Sometimes it’s way far from screen center.
Pic2. I want to turn that off too.

I can just use my aiming sight to steer. Actually, the circle brings confusion, since there are too many “circles” on the screen.
I have a custom crosshair, and I’ll get 3 different circles: the aiming sight, the crosshair at the screen center, and the white circle. Neither of them shares the same center point.

that’s the crosshair :man_facepalming:

It shows where you want to aim at or fly or drive to even if your actual crosshair isn’t there yet

Have y’all never played war thunder

no( played a handful of matches ) I played world of tanks and decided I didn’t want to grind more tanks anymore

WT is a third person game, so that circle is kinda useful. But enlisted is a first person game, so the circle causes confusion, since we already have the plane’s own aiming optic.

Unless you fly your plane with solely wasd and qe, or joystick, it is still useful in 1st person view
It indicate the direction where you want to face your plane, whereas aircraft’s reticle only show the current position of your aircraft
