Im actually gonna -1 on the crew cycling, and -1 on the loud AI… well, sort of.
For the crew cycling, I too would love to just take out whatever I wanna focus on. However, I’m a tanker. How would you feel if guys like me ONLY took out tanks? Ive had many games where I NEVER had to respawn, and kept my tank alive all game, because Im pretty good in one. Now imagine that YOU want to get into tank gameplay, but never can because theres always 2 tankers who grab it immediately, and never let anyone else have a go?
Crew cycling prevents that kind of hyper specializing, and prevents battlefield style vehicle hoarding. It gives other players a chance. Also, with infantry, it forces a diverse set of enemies to fight. Imagine if the “meta” were, I dunno, snipers… would you like a game that is 90% snipers?
As for the loud AI, yeah, honestly, the bots piss me off sometimes. Get in the way when I’m firing, draw tons of attention to me, and generally make bad cover decisions and get killed before I have a chance to swap to them. And no where is that more an issue than as a sniper.
The reason I -1 this is that you can fix all this… By actually being a squad leader, and not just allow your squad to mindlessly follow you around like a lost puppy. Press X to have them hide behind cover while you get into a snipers position. Then press X on a control point, or on the next strategic area, while you lay down cover fire. Use them as bait for your sniping. Use them to take and capture objectives remotely while you remain hidden on overwatch. Use them as a distraction. Or, keep them holed up safe and sound at a control point. They’ll defend it if they come under attack, and you can move up ahead. If you get shot, you should still have some squad members back at the point to take control of. It’s like setting up your next 4 respawns at a place close by. I also use EVERY squad as an anti tank unit, snipers included. I try to give detpacks to every member in the squad, and if I run into a tank, I can chuck a set pack, swap squad member, chuck a det pack, rinse, repeat, until the tank is DEFINITELY dead. When my squad is performing at its best, it’s when I take the time to use them strategically like this, and actually boss them around. They arent just an entourage.
But yeah, gaijin could totally make them smarter. Like maybe stop walking in right front of pumas trying to drive around. The main improvement I want is more specific orders to give them. Theres a ton of changes that could be made, and yeah, maybe making them quieter is a good idea. I’m just saying that if you take the time to use them as you should when playing sniper, you may not have this issue of them giving away your position.
