can someone explain to me what the “reserve increase” does in the blue tree. people keeps saying it increases your squad size, but it doesnt thats what the “squad size increase” does. its like nobody actually knows what the reserve upgrade does.
It increases the amount of troops you can store outside of squads
is this number listed anywhere?? i dont understand the benefit of that in anyway
After some time you might get it filled (that is less problematic with OBT logistics system and silver orders. But if that happens you will not be able to get any new soldiers from logistics until you make room in reserve.
how did you get your guy to rank 4 all mine are topped out at 3
You can get them by training your soldiers - get 3 IIIl lvl soldier with all full stars and send them to the academy. You will get one IV lvl soldier back. Note that it random which soldier comes back, so unless you got Academy order form Battlepass it is best to send there 3 soldiers of the same class. Also before you train your soldiers be sure to have proper upgrades in the upgrade tree unlocked.
Or you can try to get them form logistics - silver orders are better option because they draw soldiers only from one particular class. But that is fully luck dependant method.

However, I have to admit, that odds for higher rank soldiers are better in silver tickets, so it is a bit easier to get at least few rank IV soldiers in relatively short amount of time.

you need to have the specific squad leveld, which allows you to rank specific classes higher. So for 5 star enginers you need to have a leveld enginer squad.
wait so i send away 3 level 3’s to only get back 1 level 4 soldier and it deletes my other 2 level 3’s

The reserve size is a stupid feature to force players to pay because ofc it’s way too small .
You keep your guns , but 4-5 stars can get lot better perks, so it helps a lot
You get all the equipment back. But I take it away from them before sending them to academy just to be 100% sure.
And don’t be too quick about “not doing that ever” 
after time you will get a lot of I or II level soldiers from the logistics. It’s natural to get better troops from them by sacrificing those of lower levels.
i have a bunch of level 1 troopers who say they are maximum level. but it says in my troopers red skill tree that they can be level 3…

Ah, okay.
You see, maximum level of particular soldier is defined by the ammount of stars that he has. After filling all the stars and getting perks that soldiers has maximum level and need to be sent into Academy.
Those red upgrades allow you to send 3 soldiers of the lower level to get one of the higher level. So for example you can see that you haven’t unlocked the level V upgrade - that means you will not be able to sent 3 IV lvl soldiers for training until you unlock it.
So if you have some spare soldiers in the reserve just replace your fully trained troops in the squads with fresh ones and send them to Academy.

You can spare some of them for time when you got higher campaign level to have a chance to get other classes of soldiers. But yeah, that’s how getting stronger looks in Enlisted - you spent those orders to get more low level troops (mostly, sometimes you get really high level ones - I once got 2 IV level bombers from random order back in CBT) and continuously sending them to Academy to get more and more better soldiers.
But remember to spare silver ones for weapons and soldier classes that you really want
