What do you think about weapons balance in BR system?

What balance would we have in BR system with current weapon performance:
Low tier: most of BAs, low RoF SMGs, heavy low-capacity LMGs
Mid tier: SAs, SMGs, LMGs
Top tier: selective-fire rifles, assault rifles

As you can see, top tier not that diverse, while in reality (excluding gun cost and production capabilities) balance should look like this:

Low tier: most of BAs, low RoF SMGs, heavy low-capacity LMGs
Low-mid: best BAs, worst SAs
Mid tier: SAs, stick mag SMGs, LMGs
Mid-top: selective-fire rifles
Top tier: assault rifles, drum SMGs, best LMGs

Why we have, what we have?

  • Artificial recoil reduction - I won’t surprise you if I say, that AVT and FG 42 II have significantly less recoil, compare to other rifle-caliber guns. So while in reality these guns have uncontrollable recoil, in game you can easily spray with them. Turning off “gun_recoilControlMult” and adjusting main recoil on some guns will solve this problem.
  • High dispersion of SMGs - 0.82 (PPSh-41) vs 0.26 (AVT-40)
  • Low damage of soviet SMGs
  • Awful camera position on Thompsons

So, question is - does the game need changes, or fantasy balance works just fine?

Ideally guns should remain as close to IRL as possible imo. Of course changes has to be made to keep the game fun and ballanced.

But since the game presents quite unrealistic scenario of fully geared soldiers clashing in human waves to gain control over a 10-20m circle, I don’t really think it’s possible.

Were Berlin and Stalingrad battles in rl about gaining control over a small area? -Yes.
So, it is possible.
You can look at Insurgency series with realistic cqc gameplay, while being dynamic and fun at the same time.

Except we will end up with even stronger SMG meta. At least imo.

Sure, some may like it. But I preffer all weapons to have use (other than situational).

personally I would have always thought it would make much more sense to balance the game around squad composition rather than the weapons themselves, in order to preserve interesting diverse gameplay.

like if Assault rifles are the best weapon in the game, eventually everyone is gonna use such, but if for every meta weapon you bring you would lose squad size, it could makes sense to bring very weak weapons if you want to “zerg” the enemy.

But yea, with the BR systems a new way to balance out the Meta will come… who knows how this will work in the end…

But MP38…

0.25 disp
More accurate that SAs

But low rof

Okay, it is an exeption

DPS>fast killing

because you need enough ammo in a mag to wipe squads quickly, the main reason why automatic weapons are meta, semi autos and bolt actions are constantly reloading.

I still think why not matchmaking based on ranks… So that’s wasted?
matchmaking based on equipment is… OKish. But the actual core issue is still player’s skills. And we have a semi working system on it. Why not improve that one.
Also, I think the equipment quantity should also be considered.
There’s lots of late coming players who only get 1 or 2 newly unlocked weapons, while the rest of his equipment is still not updated to higher BR.
(To deal with someone who has fully equipped with FG42II/MG15s, vs some one just get one FG42)

Not the same as Enlisted

I think equipment based tiering is much better than rank/level based or skill.

Gives you more variety in the game. If it was rank or skill, the game would be nothing but assault rifles and heavy tanks. Sweating like hell, not enjoying using a panzer II or a at rifle.

With it being based of gear, you can enjoy weapons and vehicles from any part of the game

Like right now?

yup. like right now.

Hey I like it how it is now. But I also see the need for all the campaigns to be combined to make it more viable to keep adding content without continuously dividing what we have. (tiering is still division but…maybe not so drastic) And Id like this game to get support for years and extend on to Korea, Vietnam, modern day etc etc. (eventually. Id prefer they fully flesh out WW 2 first)

If I cant have it like it is now. I figure Weapon tiering is the next best thing… (even though I think it will ruin the WW2 feel of endgame, cos it will be nothing But Assault rifles and MGS)

The difference being new players will play against people with the same weapons as them. Not elite players with the highest possible gear as they do now

This depends on the BR setting because newbies with T-34 85s will probably still face pros. And people will face pros in general anyway.

They need to research it at first

You get free T-34-85 at the start and the other one is like five level or so.
