Easy to make this mistake, but German is Russian name of Latin origin (from Germanus). Hermann is totally different name of germanic origin. Yes, in Russian they would sound almost identical, but Hermann is very rare in Russia, why German is not. In fact, second Soviet cosmonaut had this name.
