We have all seen the reload jamming in Kar 98K and Mosin, afaik its only on guns made during wartime (worse quality) and this is an absolutely good feature.
So why not expand on it?
Gewehr and SVT spam firing is both OP and annoying, thats why their damage is reduced, which is a poor and unrealistic solution. Why not make them prone to jamming, like they were irl, spamming the fire button should have a chance of jamming the gun.
Every automatic weapon should also have the jamming function, which on my opinion should be a caused by:
Excessive spam firing, the weapon gets hot and dirty from gun powder and thus jams.
The skill of the soldier (the star rating)
The battle conditions. If you are prone on a mud puddle then the malfunction is more likely, rain increases the malfunction possibility and winter especially.
The gun being upgraded or not, being pre-war or wartime production.
If the gun was picked from the ground it should have a chance of malfunctioning because its now full of dirt.
For reloading failures, like the one seen on Kar 98, consider adding the biggest factor of all in real battle situations; battle stress and fatigue. If the soldier has been wounded, shot 50 rounds through his Mosin and is currently under artillery barrage, these all add up to his battle stress and this causes shaky hands and all that which makes it really likely for him to mess up his reloading procedure.
Also basically everything, especially reloading should be a lot slower in winter because you are wearing thick mittens.
I personally am against random failures, as it adds an RNG-element as well as a potential P2W element to weaponry.
In any engagement, you could be the best enlisted player in the world, but still lose because of a random weapon jam. It lowers the skill ceiling for the game as you can get punished for something you do not control.
Also, let’s say that upgraded weapons have lower chance to jam, but it would probably be hard for people to upgrade guns if they are not paying for more spare weapons.
I’d like to see more gun malfunctions (hangfires, duds, slamfires) because it’d balance semi-automatic rifles whilst maintaining the same ballistics (damage, bullet velocity, etc) of bolt action rifles (and honestly, some weapons were put out of productions because of these issues).
I agree with @5762269 that too much RNG would destroy the gameplay but in-game we have the “critical hit” mechanic (some bullets don’t insta-kill the enemy soldier): isn’t that RNG too? Also, remember that RNG might punish you but also help you out in difficult situations.
I dislike critical hits just as much as random weapon jamming, but in enlisted, “critical hits” are hits on the upper torso, or headshots. shots that hit the lower body or arms do not kill, so it is a skill-based mechanic.
Also, pre-war kar98s can jam just as much as normal kar98ks. they just have an artifical rarity and do not provide any improvements of stats over the normal variant.
Lol, I was using a Mosin Nagant, shoot 3 or 4 people to their torso and still managed to get only “critical hits” Was unlucky.
Weapons produced on the last years of the war (1944-1945) should be less reliable due to sabotages and shortages/low quality of raw materials. They would get the same damage potential of prewar models tho.
For the Gewher and SVT (and pretty much any semi-automatic rifle) I think the rate of fire should be reduced but damage should have a small buff to compensate.
