We need AI reconnaissance planes in the game

So gives our attacker pilot something to do because if they take it out that means a little map on the left side of your screen will disappear if it’s been shot down and the only way you can actually look at the map is by pressing the map key or maybe a radio man calling in another reconnaissance plane because it was shot down.

Reconnaissance planes were a nice detail in RO2 and were fundamental to accurate artillery strikes, but Im not sure if this would have any benefit for Enlisted. CAS would juat have an easier time finding targets.

That is true but this will give players more passive ways of getting XP and points without having to kill players so almost everyone at the end of the match can come out as some sort of winner

I think reconnaissance aircraft may be a good mechanism
It helps people find hidden assembly points and APCs, and can also help CAS indicate ground targets and help infantry find enemies faster (especially on maps with complex terrain, finding enemies can be painful)

Precisely because its role is so obvious, the reconnaissance aircraft will also encourage fighter players to shoot it down in disguise, just like the bomber group.
In any case, its existence will make the lifeless air combat ecosystem a little richer. Players can not only fly planes to drop bombs and crash into the ground, they can also use fighter jets to do other things.

The only concern is that it should not be abused, but rather be used as a tactical item, used at the right time rather than randomly, otherwise its presence will just annoy the player
Many of the game’s interesting mechanics ended up being abused

What you said there was interesting but the idea of the reconnaissance plane is so you can still have the map on the left side of your HUD If it hasn’t been shot down yet and maybe we can make it an option for radio man so they can scan a particular part of the map.

Anything related to Reconnaissance is obsolete.

That is going to be a hard NO from me.

Tying the minimap to a recon plane mechanic serves realism well, and I say that as someone who doesn’t care about realism for the most part.

If that’s really all it does - enable/disable the minimap - then I don’t think it’d shift the power balance in any way, conceptually.

Sure, there’s the issue that sometimes a team has no pilot. If noone has a plane in their loadout, your team will never have access to a minimap and the enemy always will. But this issue needs to be solved in its own way so I wouldn’t let it stand in the way of this mechanic.

The only ones who will actually get hurt by losing their mini map on the side of their HUD would actually be the mortar squads because they can’t see their hits anymore and they’ll have to just rely on pings and people’s coordinates
