We need a better replay system

Replay system is important for game play and video maker. But it performed badly in many places .We need a third person perspective to overlook the battlefield, instead of the perspective that will be disturbed by death.
We also need color-based IFF to show the situation of the battle line.
In addition, key facilities such as the rally point should be marked from the perspective of the third person.

Replay is nearly useless without fast forward (more than x4) and rewind.

I just want to be able to pull up the last match’s scoreboard in case I his esc too many times

I enjoy watching replays. Its fun to see how others reacted to my own actions. For example, if they struggled to get an angle on a defensive position or had trouble penning my tank.

Just the other day I had a hilarious moment where I was struggling to get a chruchill up a steep slope while a Puma fruitlessly pinged away at me, unable to figure out where to pen me. Only to then die the moment I finally managed to climb up.

It would be nice if I had the means to fast forward to good parts in a replay, and the means of rewinding so I can easily set up a video clip of the moment.

the ability to rewind is missing so that players do not show all the horrors of the game

Rewind function in replay is very hard to implement. For example a plane dropped a bomb, a bunch of things get destroyed, and the terrain deformed. How do we expect the rewind to work? Should the bomb go back up to the plane, the soldiers walk backward, and the terrain return to its previous state?

Replay is nothing but a simulated game build from pass input by the players. The things we can do in a match is the only thing the replay (simulated game) can do.

Regarding animation alone, if the rewind make everything reverse, a reversed version of the animations would have to be added to the game, increasing its file size. There would have to be more testing to prevent players from accessing the reversed animation.

What if rewind don’t reverse the animation?

Halo Infinite took an interesting approach to rewinding a replay where the replay is partitioned into chunks containing interesting events from a player.

Halo Infinite replay partition

Clicking an event on the replay timeline will start the replay at the beginning of the chunk containing that event skipping the need to reverse the animation and restarting the entire replay. That game only have a few players and some a few assets to track. On the other hand Enlisted have a lot of things to track, soldiers’ position, vehicle position, terrain deformation, bullet hole texture, landmines, destroyed vehicles, destructible objects (sandbag, tree, fences, doors, windows, …). Rewinding a replay would have to delete or spawn a lot of objects again.

I don’t think a rewind function is easy to implement because of the scale of Enlisted. I agree that they should let us fast forward more than x4.

Hmm Interesting topic

have the same issues, with watching replays, cant rewind etc, very annoying to watch a 30 min match, and then moment comes, you wanting to see , Doh missed it, cant rewind, have to watch 30 mins over again.

I haven’t tried yet, but any way to watch it, with VLC player or some other external player??

I do not think thats possible. The replays are not video files by any sense. Its literally the game just re-enacting the match using everyone’s recorded inputs.

True :stuck_out_tongue:

I did try to get them to play in other, and yeah no go :frowning:

Indeed, it is not a replay but a re-creation.

Not possible to play on any mediaplayer since its not a videofile.
Its not even a real replay but a recreation of the battle.
Only the game can do it.

Yes,so I just need these easy function. JUST distinguish between enemies and teammates.
