They went through multiple revisions already and every time their “effectiveness” was cut at about a half.
1 minute spawn delay at the start of the match, because people would just drop bombs/rockets and crash into the ground on the first enemy cap in Conquest
placing resupply point further away, now it takes over a minute to resupply and comeback, at the same span of time you can build two AAs
bomb load lowered by an increment - like 100kg bombs are replaced with 50kg
In addition, adding a timer that prevents getting score if pilot dies shorty after killing someone, helps with kamikaze bombers to not get XP for their actions.
Which ever nerf you have in mind is going to just punish new players, anyone experienced can bomb tanks and infantry just fine using 50kg bombs.
I fly often and rarely get shot by AA, people build them just to shoot at infantry, constantly whine that it’s hard to use them against planes, while they rarely even try to learn how to use them. You get lead indicator, planes typically come from the same direction, one-two hits from AA is enough to kill any plane, you can hear planes miles away, it takes like 10-15 seconds to build AA. If you can’t hit them with AA, then hitting them with a mounted MG or SMG must be a god like skill. I swear my bots killed more planes with their rifles than people who demand yet another plane nerf.
Before the strength of the aircraft became strong, you could do damage with a regular rifle, but… Yes, it is difficult without a machine gun (and actually anti-aircraft fire is trained )
Exactly. Before health buff you could probably shoot them down even with a pistol. I’ve killed 3 planes with mortars before that buff, not intentionally of course. Anti-tank rifles are very rewarding when used successfully against planes. I bet you could shoot one with a panzerfaust.
But for people it’s easier to get sad and complain on forum than trying to do something about it.
Making planes actually fly out to an airfield, land, wait 30 seconds for resupply, and then take off again, would help lessen bomber spam. Planes should also have to start from said airfield and take off. I also like your suggestion of a global timer following the loss of a plane. Coupled with my suggestion, this would make air assets an actual commodity! Add to that someone else’s suggestion of friendly fire, and I’d be thrilled!
Looking at the current aircraft durability, it is difficult to inflict a major blow with just one or two hits. You’ll need to destroy a lethal device to deal a direct blow.
(You can clearly see something falling in the 1:00 video and 2:41 video 2:41 video)
No idea why people like this WT inspired approach…
So let’s look at some of the obvious problems:
Airfield camping, just as it happens in WT, some people will be camping enemy airfield instead of “playing objective”. Do you set airfields far enough so camping is no viable? Do you give airfields super AA defense? Do you somehow prevent high altitude bombing of airfield? Do you set airfield in some sort of “out of bounds” region?
WT doesn’t have a limit on airplanes in the air and Enlisted does. So if I’m a competent pilot, I’ll potentially be sitting and waiting while a new guy barely takes-off, flies for 3 minutes to objective, maybe bombs something, flies for 3 minutes back and then crashes on landing. Great, half of the match already ended.
The same can be accomplished by setting resupply zone even further away, again.
This will just piss off even more free players as currently they can just suicide their infantry to get into plane faster. You can add a limit on how many times a player can spawn in the same plane, which again hurts more noobs and free players and have no effect on experienced pilots or those who can have multiple air squads.
We need better - bigger maps, not nerfed planes. I understand that many of you play on Normandy, that has the smallest distance between spawns and objectives and the highest bomb loads. But be programmatic and ask for changes that improve game for everyone, not just for a single guy who gets bombed again and again because he runs the same 50 meters in the straight line between spawn and objective.
True, which is much better than how it was before. It makes no difference for new players either way, but for those who know how to lead shots, placing a sandbag and an ammo box somewhere on the roof, for MG, gives opportunity to keep sky clear for the whole round. Just killing plane alone gives like 250Xp, killing 5-6 of those is kind of guarantee on it’s own to be at the top of the scoreboard. For comparison, I would have to kill approximately 50 infantry with MG for the same result. My math might be off but that’s a feeling I’ve got when deliberately hunted airplanes on some maps.
Oh! I didn’t know the points you would get for shooting down an aircraft were so high! Of course not because of the points, I will learn more and study
I think you’re overlooking a couple of points, here (though you do make some good ones!)
1 - New players would probably just crash their planes on takeoff. They’re the same people who crash their planes trying to make attack runs.
2 - Rearming points are already outside the playable area for infantry. Making airfields sit a bit further out (and again, unreachable for infantry) isn’t going to promote airfield camping. As for keeping enemy planes away from your airfield, I’d just do it the same way you keep enemies from your spawnpoints and keep planes near the battle now, with the dreaded, “Return to the battle, soldier!” message, followed by death, if the player doesn’t.
3 - If Johnny Freeplay is suiciding his infantry (thus hurting the rest of the team in the process) just to get to an aircraft, then I honestly don’t care if he’s irritated. Aircraft are support assets, not Top Gun assets. Wanna free fly? Play in practice mode.
i would be more motivated to kill planes in my p51 if a didnt watch my bullets set them on fire start rotating and exploding on the ground if i got the gill for that and not enemy (scope icon) ju 188a
