Today is the 79th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising.

August 2, 1944, Wednesday. Sunrise: 5:13 AM, sunset: 8:42 PM, average temperature 18°C, rain, cloudy.
The Old Town was completely taken over by insurgent troops, which took, among others, a solid building of the Polish Security Printing Works at ul. Sanguszki 1 and cleared pl. Krasińskich.Śródmieście is mostly in Polish hands.

In the districts of Mokotów and Żoliborz, key positions were not captured. The commander of the Żoliborz District, Lieutenant Colonel Mieczysław Niedzielski (pseudonym “Żywiciel”) brought most of his troops in the evening from the canceled march towards the Kampinos Forest.

In Wola, the insurgents went on the defensive against the attack of German units.

The fights of the “Kampinos” Group for the Babice airport ended in failure.

The Kiliński Battalion captured the building of the Main Post Office at Plac Napoleona (today Plac Powstańców Warszawy).

Polish troops also captured the Arbeitsamt at Plac Małachowskiego.

In Powiśle, the Warsaw Power Plant was taken over, and the Broom Battalion captured the Tobacco Monopoly factory.

There were heavy fights near Pęcice of the Polish units, which withdrew from Ochota.

On that day, the German armored gun Jagdpanzer 38 (t) Hetzer, later named “Chwat”, and two German tanks of the PzKpfw V Panther type, from which the “Wacek” armored platoon is formed, were also captured.

The 104th Syndicalist Company captured the Krasiński Palace.
