I know some of the people are about to explode from the mentioning of skins in a historical game.
HEAR ME OUT FIRST:
War thunder got the ability to use modded custom skins for the tanks. The best thing about it, the skins are only shown for the player who downloaded them. That means, no matter what the skin looks like, other players will not be affected at all. That means that there would not be a single reason to be angry about even the skins which are unrealistic. No one except the player who wants to see it will see the skins.
Now the ideas for custom modded weapon skins: -battlefield 1 got insanely great weapon skins in my opinion: Some are very nicely decorated, others are just simply recolored wood or the best, damaged guns.
Remember the old versions of some guns? They could also be examples of skins:
(Ignore the new/old) We could create skins like the old ones! (I liked them way more)
but wasn’t very well received because it’s not realistic.
so, customization for weapons, yes.
but only realistic one.
such as different wood color as long was historical and made sense.
not wacky type of cosmetics like bf1.
that is something we should avoid.
( but then… we got gold and silver pistols so… )
let’s just introduce a War thunder live site type to enlisted as well. so people can decide what they want instead of having rather questionable skins that can be purchased.
You missed the important point i think. I meant modded custom skins which can be downloaded just like in warthunder. Also it would not matter if they are realistic, because they would only be shown for the player who downloaded the skin. Just like in warthunder. The basegame will not be affected at all
TBH, custom skins like WT should work, as no one but you can see those skins in game there IIRC, so if someone wants the Anime K98k, they can have it but no one else will see it.
Problem with that is that you won’t have time to admire your skin compared to WT cause WT has bigger maps and you have time to travel to objectives therefore time to look at your skins but in Enlisted the maps are smaller and objectives are closer, it literally takes around 10-20 seconds for the shooting to start the moment you spawn in.
