Hello bajtársak and fellow forumdwellers,
Few updates have been as popular as the “New Era” update which introduced APCs to the game and the revival of the rider class has been met as a mostly positive change.
Despite this and the numerous possibilities with them, rider and apc vehicles remain terribly unexplored.
I originally had many ideas for this suggestion and collected over 45 unique vehicles for all 4 factions about equally during days of research, but then the new pre-order was announced.
If even the pre-order is low effort then I have no hope for this major update, which is why I cut down from my suggestion very heavily, only suggesting a small but realistic fraction.
Rider section
Add Rider II squad
- Make Rider II squad Italian for European Axis faction and British for Western Allies faction.
- Rider II squad has 3 personnel by default and can be upgraded to a total of 5 personnel.
vehicles of the Rider II squads
SPA-Viberti AS.42 “Sahariana”
BR2 European Axis, tech tree
Built on the chassis of the AB41, the Sahariana is a long range, highly manoeuvrable vehicle, similar to those widely used by the highly successful British LRDG.
They were well armed with either a 20 mm Breda Model 35 autocannon or a 20 mm Solothurn S-18/1000 anti-tank rifle, alongside 1 to 3 machine guns. An impressive armament for the 5 or 6 soldiers the vehicle can carry.
Though primarily deployed in north africa to harass enemy supply convoys, seven vehicles fought on the Eastern Front as part of the 2. Fallschirmjäger Division.
Chevy 1533X2 30 CWT
BR2 Western Allies, tech tree
Fighting in the desert is harsh, all necessities: ammunition, food, water, soap ect. must be shipped hundreds of kilometres to the front.
The Long Range Desert Group or LRDG for short specialised in striking at the vulnerable Italian supply routes of north africa, these operations require specialised vehicles with enough supply for days.
For this purpose Canadian built trucks were converted to the role, carrying 4-5 personnel, multiple light machine guns of different kinds, anti-tank rifles, sometimes even light AA and AT guns, but AA and AT configurations took up too much space limiting the vehicle to 4 personnel only.
Though primarily used in the north african campaign, these vehicles saw use in the Italian and Balkan campaigns as well.
Type 92 Chiyoda armoured car
BR2 Japan, tech tree
The Chiyoda armored car was the first domestic Japanese armored car, The armor scheme and wheel arrangement were similar to the Wolseley armored car, which was already in Japanese service.
Compared to other vehicles of this suggestion, the Chiyoda´s greatest advantage is the fully enclosed fighting compartment and excellent mobility with a maximum speed of 60 km/h.
However Type 92’s armour is very thin, being only 6mm thick which is only enough to stop small arms fire, while all anti-tank rifles, heavy machine guns and even high caliber rifles such as Berdan II (firing 10.75×58mmR) can penetrate its armour.
Its armament is also rather modest with only 3x Type 11 light machine guns.
M3A1E1 Scout Car /
BR2 Soviet Union, tech tree
The M3A1 Scout Car is an American open topped light armoured car designed for reconnaissance, the design is highly reminiscent of the M3A1 half-track.
The vehicle could carry a crew of 2 and 6 passengers, it was very well protected with 1 heavy machine and 2 light machine guns.
The M3A1E1 variant is powered by a less powerful but more fuel economical 81 hp (60 kW) Buda-Lanova 6DT-317 six-cylinder diesel engine. In total 3,340 M3A1E1 were produced, all of them sent to the Soviet Union.
APC section
All current tech tree “APCs” need to go down to BR1, these unarmoured and unarmed trucks + 1 prime mover are not comparable to actual Armoured Personnel Carriers.
Though APC squads have flexible battle ratings, that does not mean one squad is enough.
Add APC III squad to the game.
- Where is APC I squad, you ask? It was cut alongside 90% of my original suggestion.
- Make APC III squad Italian for European Axis faction and British for Western Allies faction.
- Make all tech tree APCs available to both APC II and APC III squads.
New Armoured Personnel Carriers for each faction
Sd.Kfz.250/1
BR2 European Axis, tech tree APC
Sd.Kfz 250 is the lighter and smaller but otherwise in many aspects identical vehicle to the Sd.Kfz 251 which is already in game as the Sd.Kfz 251/1 (troop carrier variant) but as a premium.
The Sd.Kfz 250/1 is the troop carrier variant of the Sd.Kfz 250 which must be added to the European Axis tech tree.
M3A1 half-track
BR2 Western Allies, tech tree APC
The M3A1 half-track was the US army’s primary armoured half-track of the war.
Though a limited number of M3A1s were lend-leased to allied nations, almost all were exclusively used by the US army while the M5 and M9 half-tracks which are very similar, nearly identical in appearance were lend-leased to Allied nations such as Britain, Free France and the Soviet Union.
As we probably all know the M3A1 half-track is a Soviet premium (2 were lend-leased to them) but the M3A1 half-track must be added to the nation’s tech tree that actually used them en masse.
Type 1 Ho-Ki
BR2 Japan, tech tree APC
The Type 1 Ho-Ki is a hybrid vehicle, being an armoured personnel carrier and a prime mover at the same time. Though it’s the second most produced Japanese vehicle in APC category, its production numbers are extremely modest compared to that of other Great Powers, especially United States and Germany which were the greatest industrial powerhouses of the era.
Though it officially does not carry any weapons, on a late war picture however, a machine gun of some kind is visible on the lead vehicle (it was common practice to only arm the lead vehicle while the rest only focused on infantry transport).
T-20 komsomolets
BR2 Soviet Union, tech tree APC
The T-20 komsomolets is the most produced Soviet armoured fighting vehicle capable of carrying troops by design intention (not just hitch riding on a tank), BUT its just an armoured traktor designed to pull light guns to position and carry their crew and ammunition.
This is why having to cut down from my suggestion really sucks because this vehicle seems absolutely ridiculous when compared to what other nations get, but I hear me out.
First of all, this vehicle is as ridiculous as it is, does pass an “APC” and it makes sense for this to be the first APC unlocked in the Soviet tech tree.
Secondly, the primarily task of an APC in Enlisted is to be a mobile rally point and for that, being small is a huge advantage because a smaller vehicle is easier to hide and T-20 will be the second smallest APC in the game, only losing to the event Universal Carrier which never should have been added as APC.
excellent potential premium vehicles
Sd.Kfz. 250/4
BR2 European Axis, premium rider vehicle
The Sd.Kfz. 250/4 features a dual MG34 in AA configuration mounted in the place of the machine gun; the gunshield was redesigned to better protect the AA gunner.
Though officially the vehicle was never produced, at least one such vehicle was photographed.
Unlike the Sd.Kfz 250/1 troopcarrier variant, there is not enough space on the Sd.Kfz. 250/4 for a whole squad, only 5 personnel at best.
M39 armored utility vehicle
BR2 Western Allies, premium rider vehicle
The M39 armored utility vehicle (T41) is an American armored vehicle which was built on the chassis of the Hellcat, though the vehicle is a WW2 design and it did exist during the conflict, it earned its fame much later, during the Korean War.
Armed with a single heavy machine gun, the vehicle was used in multiple different roles from ammunition transport to reconnaissance.
Su-Ki Amphibious truck
BR1 Japan, premium APC
As the name suggests, the Su-Ki is an amphibious quasi armoured (5mm thick…) but unarmed truck.
I’m sure its amphibious properties will make it a valuable asset in the Pacific.
Lend-leased Universal Carrier /
BR2 Soviet Union, premium rider vehicle
The Universal Carrier is a British troop/weapons carrier, being capable of carrying 4 to 5 soldiers. Though the Universal Carrier is already in the game as an APC, it has often been joked with since the design is completely impractical to be an APC thus justice should be given to it as a rider vehicle, something it was actually designed for.
Potential event vehicles
Japan and Soviet factions never got their event APCs, for which they are resentful for, here are 3-3 potential vehicles for an event.
Japanese APCs
Type 4 Ka-Tsu
Type 4 Chi-So armored medium tracked carrier
F B swamp vehicle
Soviet APCs
Ba-64E
M5 half track
M9 half-track
A sneak peek of cut ideas
My suggestion was originally meant to differentiate between light trucks, medium trucks and prime movers.
Light trucks are only used as mobile rallies and troop transport.
Medium trucks double as mobile rally and ammo box, alternatively rather than supplying ammo box they can pull light AT guns such as pak36.
Prime movers are mobile rallies, supply points for ground vehicles and can pull an AT or AA gun.
Jeeps were completely cut as they wouldn’t have been a big enough upgrade over motorcycles.
No BR3 APCs were suggested though some were planned.
Armoured cars would have been suggested as well as the BR3 upgrade for riders, though the Type 92 Chiyoda did manage to sneak in.
The number of vehicles featured was drastically decreased, here are some of them:
