USSR vs Japan -> Make It A Rotating Game Mode

As you are all aware, the new “Even Fight: USSR vs Japan” event has just released! Primarily, it features two set teams with fixed equipment on a single map, with some free rewards for repeated play.

My thoughts are the following: What if there was a game mode that took these fundamental elements of this event, and had them on a weekly or bi-weekly rotation?

For example:

Even Fight - Select gamemode in the menu containing Squads, Practice, Customs etc

Imgur

August 3rd - August 10th: Germany vs USA, Cathedral (Conquest)
August 10th - August 17th: USA vs USSR, Gavutu (Confrontation)
etc

10-15 levels in the weekly “Even Fight” pass, all free and require 5,000 Score to progress (50,000-75,000 total). This does not give progress to other types of events that are played in Squads (think of the month-long 20,000 score every two weeks, or 3-4 objectives every 2 days for 9-12 total rewards). All levels of weekly pass can be grinded within the week, there is no daily or bi-daily limit.

Darkflow can create at least one (possibly more) static loadouts for each nation, possibly even varying in BRs? All that would have to be done is each week at a selected time, they can randomize 2 different nations to fight each other of a randomized map, either in Conquest or Confrontation (could they implement the pre-existing randomizer in the custom battle creator?).

As for the rewards, the devs could also randomize the rewards (I feel like 1 Gold Order Weapon for each nation per week, or 2 every 2 weeks would be incentive enough, with some other miscellaneous stuff sprinkled in like boosters, silver, customization orders etc).

Potential Monetization Opportunity for Darkflow

I include this because if the developers can make more money from a consistent new game mode, it has to be worthwhile. I believe this game mode should give you respective progress on the tech tree as Squad battles already do based on the nation you played, but since Premium squads aren’t a part of this game mode, you can pay for improved earnings/progression with Gold, similar to the progression boost offer in the Event. Every week, there is a 900 gold option (the devs could use the same UI they have already used for Halloween, April Fools, and now this event) to progress 50% faster, that stacks with premium. Essentially, you can earn all of the stuff in the mini-pass each week, if you want to spend the 900 gold to progress faster. It wouldn’t give you any other options, but it means earning those weekly former Gold-Order weapons faster if the saved time is worth it to you.

TLDR:

Every week, two random nations fight on a random map and battle mode with set loadouts. Each weekly Even Fight pass contains 10-15 steps, containing 2 gold-order weapons (based on the nations in the current week’s rotation) and other miscellaneous rewards to reward your time and effort. The whole pass can be grinded altogether, meaning players who only can play on a certain day or two can grind the entire event and earn the rewards. If you wish to earn these free weekly rewards faster, you can pay 900 gold each week to earn everything in the weekly pass faster (eg. instead of taking player X 24 battles to complete, player Y who spent 900 gold completed it in 16 with the same score in each battle).

These are my general thoughts so far, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on this sort of idea! Would you prefer other rewards? Should Attack/Defense game modes also be included? Should there be a different way for the developers to monetize such an event? Is there something I missed in my collective idea that is really important? Please let me know!

I do think this is an interesting idea for distributing gold order weapons, but I dislike the idea of it being locked behind a separate game mode, especially one with an entirely separate “mini-pass”. Having 2 battle passes at once (even if the second one isn’t technically paywalled) just feels gross and I’m also not a huge fan of how this mode plays in the first place, the current iteration is pretty poorly implemented and balanced and isn’t that fun. That might partially be because of the maps, but as it stands I don’t think even fights on a regular basis is the best use of development time.

I will acknowledge the mode could be improved on, it did just release. But its current state leaves a bad first impression. We’ll see.

This is fair.

I guess my idea with it is that it becomes a bit of a “plug and play” system for the developers. Work is done upfront to make the loadouts and such, all they have to do is:

  • Input two nations
  • Input a map and game mode
  • Input Gold-Order weapons

And this would be once a week. I’m not a developer, but I understand how a system can be done that has all of the work up-front, and the new thing just requires a few small inputs to work.

As for the mini-pass arguments, it’s fair. I don’t really know how they could directly pair up the passes without disincentivizing Squads, since the whole point is to unlock new equipment. If someone can complete Squads events from Even Fight, there would be no reason to play Squads, aside from choice or equipment, and I worry that it wouldn’t be enough to sustain the population. I could be totally wrong, though.

Yeah I think it would have an advantage as far as making the events more interactive, but it would absolutely require a lot of up front setup. Might be easier said than done since it’s a 20 year old game engine, and a codebase that has changed developers (iirc).

I had the same suggestion as well. they could base it off the current battle pass of that month as well where if its Germany and allies are the main theme of the pass they would be fighting with historical squad load outs on their respective campaigns. Also they can do historical load outs with upcoming maps as a sneak peak for the new map/campaign to test and fix issues before it gets added to squads
