So I was watching some old War Thunder videos and one of them was showcasing the then new user skin system. It then hit me: What if we had a similar system in Enlisted? Understandably, customization options for Soldiers can be a little expensive. And what options we do have can be either repetitive or limited for various reasons. Hence, what if we had the ability to better customize our soldiers for free, but at the cost of it only being seen on client side? I personally would like to make skins for my Soviet Soldiers that are liken to cold war era camo, while still retaining the standard uniform we have ingame. For example:
I’d also like to mix and match color options of some uniforms, such as adding the frog skin camo to the water resistant type pants and jackets of US soldiers (I don’t know the official designation so here is a screenshot of the uniform itself (without the pattern, of course).
This system of course would be rather basic in that it mainly changes the color and camo patterns, so that the system is both user friendly and gives plenty of options. But at the same time, makes the purchasing of outfits which visible to all players can still encouraged, but not compulsory. And of course, a similar system could be implemented for vehicles if you want. And this would add a new cattogory to the Enlisted sandbox site. After all, if War Thunder has a system like this for vehicles, and still makes a decent amount of money selling skins visible to all, why not have a similar system in Enlisted?

With that out of the way, what types of userskins would you like to make? Would they be historical, semi-historical, or fictional? For me personally I would like semi-historical. Taking existing uniforms we have ingame and giving them other camo types would be really fun. Not to mention I would like to take the Fallschirmjäger uniform from the Kiraly 43M squad in Normandy, and use it for other squads.

The problem with that is, that we can’t rely on the player base to not make completely inappropriate, offensive or just outright stupid skins for their soldiers. I suppose Gaijin could solve this issue by hiring a staff to sift through skins waiting for an approval process, but that costs money better spent on adding new campaigns, rare weapons and building the game out more.
Not poopooing on your idea, just telling you why it might be difficult to implement.
I take it you did not notice the part where it would be client side only. IE: Only you, the player using the said skin could see it. Everyone else would see the default skin instead. Not to mention this has never really been an issue on War Thunder’s side.

But then, if only you see the skin (or the select few that download your skin pack so they too can see it) why have it at all if you cant show it off? I get that that’s not an issue for people, as it’s popular in Warthunder as you said, but if I go through the trouble of making a skin I want everyone to witness it’s awesomeness before I mow them down mercilessly.
I guess personally, I just don’t see the point. But for those who don’t mind, hey. More power to you.

No worries. I understand where your coming from. I felt the War Thunder style userskin system would be great as I feel Dark flow would not be willing to forgo their major source of income to allow someone to do it for free if everyone could see it. So the WT style system would be a compromise. But then again, maybe they will come to their senses and instead simply reduce the overall cost of all soldier customization options to say the cost of customizing one solider now, will instead be the cost for a whole squad. As I’d rather pay $10-15 to customize a whole 9 man squad as opposed to just 1 man.
This is the sort of thing my larp addicted self would absolutely love
I’d probably go with a homemade woodland camo that’s the sorta thing you’d paint your gun irl, like some dude in the field just took some bleach or a spray paint can to do a dyi camo on his OD
I’m also an advocate for adding weapon customization along the line of how RDR2 did it where you swap out different materials on your gun ie changing what type of wood your stock is made out of or the finish on your gun and this’d be a good alternative to that if it was added for weapons

sure, i would love custom skins.
i would love them even more if those can be used in mods and/or custom games ( to match creator’s settigs for example if he/she wants to do historical camos and what not ).

Make it simply like war thunder. Create an option to turn on and turn off user skins. Easy…
Those who want whatever they want can use the skins
and Those who do not like custom skins cann turn them off?
