Use positive reinforcement as opposed to negative reinforcement for the desertion penalty system

Players should be rewarded for not deserting instead of being punished for deserting.

My proposal is giving players a 5% EXP boost for every match they complete up to 100% (or more) that resets back to 0% when they desert a game.

This encourages players to not desert and rewards good behavior as opposed to trying to force players in line through punishment.

Most other PvP games have desertion penalties because you’re playing a team headed game and leaving actively hurts your team. Those games have actual mm bans even for public games.

Just refine the map selection system, and if you can’t handle having a bad map/match every once in a while, maybe don’t play team shooters.

Okay, does that actually make punishment systems better than encouragement systems?

Bad matches and bad maps should, in a perfect world, not exist. It’s a fault of Darkflow not implementing a fair matchmaking system (throwing solos against full squad stacks for example) or Darkflow poorly designing maps and gamemodes that many people significantly dislike (conquest or armored train)

In any event, players shouldn’t be punished for not enjoying mistakes that happen because of the developer’s poor systems

What does Hell Let Loose have to say about this? Considering it’s a game that promotes stronger teamwork, has dedicated voice channels anything you could possibly need to be a legit fire team and cohesive army.

And yet it doesn’t penalise you for leaving. In fact, it offers a 50% bonus for staying.

Okay? World of Tanks/Ships/Planes, War Thunder, Halo, most MOBA/Arena shooters all have leaving penalties because again, you’re screwing your team.

HLL/Squad is a drop in/drop out game where people can join and leave at random. Enlisted has dedicated matches where once it starts, randoms can’t drop in.

does it make punishment better

Given that players stayed in despite bad matches, yeah. I’d rather have players than bots.

bad matches/maps shouldn’t exist

Lmao it’s literally impossible to make every match perfectly balanced and every map cater to every person. That’s just goofy to even consider it. There will always be a map that someone doesn’t like. But you’re playing a team game, so just suck it up and help the team. There’s maps I don’t like, I play them because there’s 5-9 other dudes on my team expecting me to play regardless if the enemy team is strong or if the map isn’t what I want. If that concept is too difficult, custom matches with bot lobbies or single player games exist.

They just need to refine the map system for the super picky people and then it’s good enough.

Are you saying me or deserters in general? I very rarely, if not ever, leave matches. My winrate is only at it’s highest around 54.5%, which shows I stick through all matches, good, bad, stomp, win or lose.

Well perhaps they should make Enlisted more casual like this, as most people who play Enlisted are those chilling from working a long day.

Or just make desertions count as losses and watch the people who leave to save their precious win rates collapse like dying stars

me or in general

Deserters in general.

drop in/drop out for enlisted

Unfortunately doesn’t really work given the game design. Matches are 20-30 minutes on average. HLL/Squad/Arma have large maps and are usually an hour-several hours per match, which enables teams to drop in/out without impacting battle flow (unless the majority of a team all drops at once). Unless Enlisted adds a mode like that (which I’ve personally wanted for a long time) I don’t see it being feasible.

I would note that I’m also one of those people that’s just playing after work, but I still stick around on principle.

What a great list of surely not toxic games, most of which are currently having major issues.

Here’s a great list of non-toxic multiplayer shooter games

Don’t play team games if you’re not gonna support the team when situations aren’t 100% to your liking every time.

What ratio if bad games is acceptable before I am allowed to start deserting without penalty 50 35 25 20 15 percent

Why should I support the a team when that team refuses to support themselves? Why should a player be forced to have a bad time because of terrible teammates? Like I dont even desert, and I can see why people desert. Nothing has been done to alleviate these issues, let alone fix them.

This system has, as predicted, failed, the serial deserters, continue to serially desert, new players get stuck being the chew toys of clan stacks unable to leave without facing punishment, people with poor internet or who live in places with rough connection get royally fucked over and the list goes on.

Also wanna know something about most of those games you pointed out, they have a rank or skill based match maker for that reason, or if not they have a system to match squads against other similar sized squads, something even WT which has a notoriously shit MM, even has.

So no, this system is ass, People like us get fucked over because people who need to not desert will still desert, and all you get left with is depressed new players who wont return to the game after today leading the slow and painful death of the game.

So instead of being so stuck up your own ass, and maybe consider the suggestion to use positive reinforcement to entice players to stay, Serial Deserters will always be an issue, but the carrot and the stick works best there,

For example, if you desert 3 games in a row, you get a 10 minute cooldown timer of you cant join another game, in fact throw a pop up during the 3rd queue going “You have deserted too much, if you desert again you may face a temporary queue ban”.

But on the flip side to encourage new players, give them an extra +10-50% for staying for the whole match, say +10% for a win, but plus 50% for a loss. Maybe give them a little silver bonus for sticking it out, Id point to the verdun medal system here but thats edging into a separate discussion.

I mean its also a fact that a comprehensive map filter would go a long way. Or a gamemode filter, another thing a lot of those games you mentioned have, preferences for maps is bad but acceptable, however being forced into bad gamemodes or gamemodes that dont fit your tasks is harmful to the game in the long run.

Desertion/quitting a match - is a perfectly valid feature.

There are plenty of good reasons to quit a match, such as irl reasons and technical issues.

But the audacity of people who systematically desert matches just to bypass MM, like it’s some valid thing to do. That’s quite something.

What a surprise that they will be punished for exploiting desertion in order to make their personal MM.

The biggest mistake was to not have any kind of meaningful desertion penalties since day one.

Man, asian players really got the short end of the stick. I only desert when ping is absolutely shittttttttt

Altho, i can take the penalties tho, so hehe

IRL/Technical quits

Sure. And tbh if that happens to me, eating a single -20% penalty once in a blue moon is fine. We agree on the serial deserters being the problem, and that’s who I’m talking about. Which sure, I could’ve clarified to begin with. I’ll take that.

Maybe you (and serial deserters) shouldn’t play team based games if you advocate for the option to quit as soon as someone doesn’t get a winning team or their favorite map.

I’ve advocated for Stack-based mm rules for a long time now. Also not all of them have that and they still operate perfectly fine with even more punishing penalties.

What is this participation trophy goofiness? 50% bonus for taking an L? Do people really need to be catered to that much? Take a loss, move on to the next match. Like every other game.

I’ve already said in other threads that they should probably expand the current filter system so all the super picky players can get what they want. But also acting like the game should cater to 100% of what everyone wants for maps is ridiculous. There will be maps people like and ones they don’t like. No game ever has a system where players can ONLY get the maps and modes they like 24/7. Tbh I’ve never seen a playerbase be so small yet so entitled like this playerbase.

the exact opposite of being forced to play a match with a penalty for leaving its carrot and stick only enlisted took the carrot and beat you with it
