US gun sins

One of the things I believe enlisted needs a bit of touching up on is the animations, ranging from soldier movement to the proper handling of the current in game weapons. When you are aware of the proper way these firearms are supposed to be handled/operated it is a little immersion breaking to see even basic operating principles not represented. That said this is more just to point out and catalog discrepancies so that the devs can get around to fix them, I won’t be pointing out issues with some of the more exotic firearms as I do not have the knowledge to critique them and these are just the issues I’ve noticed so if there’s any yall know about feel free to reply. Also this is just US weapons for now.

Also stuff like ‘the type 94 should blow up in your hand every time you try to shoot it’ aren’t the sins I’m pointing out, just ones based on proper handling and operation and not malfunction or ‘it’s a prototype so it shouldn’t be there’ sins.

Pistols

As a general rule of thumb for not just US pistols but all pistols is that standard practice during WW2 was to wield them with one hand, all pistols in game are held with two. While a two handed grip is simply superior to a single handed one and some soldiers certainly favored a two handed grip the norm was that pistols should be held in one hand.

M1911A1;

M1911s in WW2 did not have 8 round magazines, they had 7 round magazines, 8 round magazine 1911s didn’t show up till the modernized ones in the 90s that MARSOC ordered.

M1911s have a last round bolt hold open, meaning that when the last shot is fired the slide should lock open, in game it resets like there’s still a round in the magazine

The magazine release is not pressed when reloading

On a tactical reload the slide is still pulled despite there already being a round in the chamber

Muh 45 doesn’t do enough damage compared to a 9mm

Browning Hi Power;

No bolt hold open

Magazine release not pressed on reload

Tactical reloads have the anachronistic slide pull

Technically should be available to the Germans too as around 400000 Belgian Hi Powers were produced under German occupation

There really aught to be a gold order Hi Power with its stock

All American Revolvers;

Unless you’re an officer with a flair for cowboy stuff you’re just gonna be carrying a 1911

Welrod;

Technically British but I wanted to point out that it’s actually way too loud funnily enough, welrods are crazy quiet so long as the baffles are maintained

Bolt action Rifles

Scoped M1903 variants;

There’s still clipping issues when reloading where your hand clips through the scope

All US bolt actions;

The method of cycling the bolt is not how American soldiers were drilled to do so, in game the bolt is held and operated in the palm of the operator’s hand, in reality American riflemen were drilled to cycle their bolts in-between the thumb and index fingers with many soldiers also using their middle finger in addition to the index finger

Semi auto rifles

M1 Carbine;

The casings it spits out are way too big for 30. carbine looking more like 30.06, the casings irl are also not necked, they’re barrel shaped like most pistol rounds

In game the M1 Carbine looks like it’s made of yew wood, while not impossible it really aught to be made outta walnut like the Garand and M2 carbine are

M1 Garands;

The current reload while technically correct is not how an American soldier would reload, the M1 Garand auto closes the bolt when pressure on the clip is released provided you insert it correctly and have your thumb in the proper position, the soldier manually closing the bolt is indicative of either an improper reload or an improperly maintained/cleaned firearm both of which are unlikely for an American soldier given how proper reloads and weapon maintenance were drilled into them

M1941 Johnson;

The reload is way too fast, loading stripper clips from the side is super awkward

Two five round stripper clips are always reloaded on every reload, topping up the rifle should be done with single rounds and only stripper clips when applicable

Pedersen Rifle;

The Pedersen rifle has a last round bolt hold open and auto ejects the empty clip, in game you have to pull back the bolt to eject the clip, which is super weird cus if you don’t have any ammo the bolt sticks up as proper but when you get ammo again it closes via magic and then you pull the bolt back

The rifle really should be designated T1 Pedersen as that was the army designation for it

It aught to be the standard US service rifle over the Garand but MacArthur pissed on that notion

SMGs/Assault rifles

All Thompsons;

Thompsons have a last round bolt hold open which is not represented in game, since it’s an open bolt weapon that means in combat you should never have to pull the bolt unless there is a jam, considering that there’s about 80 Thompsons in game it’s pretty aggravating, the exception to this being the M1928 Thompson with the drum mag, with a drum mag the Thompson’s bolt hold open is inoperable and thus the bolt must be pulled open on an empty reload

M50/55 Reising;

The reload aught to be slower, this is a very awkward gun to reload given its roots as a civilian smg

M3A1 Grease Gun;

While the M3 has a side mounted crank that functions as a cocking handle the M3A1 has no cocking handle, in game the soldier grips the side of the gun like there is one when there’s not, in reality on the M3A1 in order to open the bolt you had to physically stick your finger into the chamber and pull the bolt back

M2 Carbine;

Classified in game as an automatic rifle like the FG-42 and AVT-40, in reality it is more properly designated an assault rifle given that it does not fire a full size rifle round

Shell casings are still wrong

The lever sticking up out of the left side of the receiver is the fire selector, in game it is static and stuck in the automatic position, if you flick to semi auto(tho why would you)the selector stays in the automatic position

M2 Carbines in WW2 were issued as a conversion kit to turn M1 Carbines into automatic M2 Carbines, given the fact that the in game M2 Carbine would likely be a converted M1 it shouldn’t have a bayonet lug as most M1 Carbines didn’t have said lug

Machine guns

All BARs;

The BAR does not have a reciprocating charging handle, it should be pushed forward on an empty reload

M1919A6;

The M1919 didn’t come with desintegrating belts

Shotguns

There’s still no M1897 trench gun >:(

Launchers and other heavy weapons

All Bazookas;

If you have the launcher facing down when you reload it like in game the rocket falls through the tube onto the ground

Bazooka rockets must have an electric wire attached between the rocket and the launcher in order for them to fire, no wire is hooked up in game

The M9 Bazooka could be split in half for easier carrying, I doubt any soldier would carry a fully assembled M9 on their back at all times

M7 and M8 grenade launchers;

The removal of the physical launcher from the rifle when not in use is anachronistic, the launcher works just fine when you fire live rounds through it when it’s not loaded with a grenade

Rifle grenade launchers work by loading either a blank or wooden bullet which propels the grenade, in game no switch is made which would cause the grenade to detonate on the end of the rifle

On the M1 Carbine and M1 Garand the soldier should have to manually cycle the bolt between grenade launches as the blank rounds used to propel the grenade do not have the pressure to properly cycle the bolt

The anti infantry grenades really aught to just be a Mk2 grenade in a launch housing as that was what was most commonly used in WW2, said grenade still needs its pin pulled before launch or it won’t detonate, said grenade would also not be impact detonated though the detonation time would be very short depending on the range the grenade had to travel

M1 flamethrower;

I may be incorrect on this but I believe it should have a visible pilot light

It has too much fuel

M2 Flamethrower;

It has 7 seconds of burn time irl and in game it’s more like 12

i would appreciate if these sins get de-sinned after the big update arrives, considering it was said that they will do bug fixes, and polishing of the game assets
