Update Reminder pop up for mods in custom games tab

greetings.

today i come with a suggestion that would be pretty handy.

and that one is,

Make a system that reminds and allows players to update their mods with the latest version

this system, what should do is, cross checks versions within the user’s installed mod, and the portal version mod. that way, if the installed mod is outdated, the player will be reminded through a pop up and be allowed to get the newest version within the same pop up.

why ?

well, very simple.

most people don’t check for the version nor have ways of knowing a mod has been updated.

just one of many examples:

image

or in Big Action case of @tommyZZM where he constatly updates it,

people are still stuck to months old versions.

and since it’s less than ideal both for the creators as their mods is played on older builds, ( especially when playing pre updates missions where sometimes said mods are broken and requires a fix After an updates ) and for the players to not having to constantly check the portal.

said system would help out both parties while reducing the hussles for everyone involved.

how does it work?

ideally, everytime a player creates or hosts a custom lobby with a mod, the player will receive a pop up on the screen ( as a reminder ) advising the player that a never version is able.

said pop up will need to have a " keep the current version " or " update to newer version " buttons.

in the first case, the game will do nothing and allows the player to play said current version if they desire.

in the second case, the game will automatically get the newer version from the portal.

and from there, players will be able to remain up to date.
and modders will be somewhat safeguarded.

that is all. thanks for listening.

It would be easier give the option to the mod site to send people an email if the mod they are subscribed/liked is updated to a new version, the forum has the option to send the email if someone replies to you or other stuff after all, imo the mod site should have the same

on top of being half assed, it’s never going to work.

considering that people don’t really check emails. or enters in the rather unmoderated portal.

because matter of fact, the way it currently works, few visit the portal, download a mod, and then most people join / finds out about said mod through the custom matches by joining the lobby. and it automatically downloads that version. not to mention, those people never sets a foot on the portal. never liking or " subscribing " to any creator / mod either.

hence, it would be far effective if it’s within the game so that people can update it with relative ease.

sure. it might require a bit of work from the devs, but it will be more effective as you will not have to relay to thertiary stuff or intermediates through a site and what not.

so it HAS to be within the custom game lobbies.

which yes, i wouldn’t disagree that within said custom lobbies, a button for links to brings people to the modders profiles, be able to comment on the mod that it’s being selected or simply leave a like would be great as well.

but the more it’s centralized, the better.
and one step at a time, those shall follow.

but first, the most important one of them all, is having the ability to update the mod from the same UI.
