“Unrealistic Realism” #3: Multi-staged reloads

Cons of short one-staged reloads:

  • Bad looking animations
  • Unfinished animations - charging round 2 times if you switched weapon etc.
  • Chambered rounds and tactical reloads (when you drop mag) are pointless to implement, because reloads are already to fast

Suggestion - Multi-staged reloads (in seconds):
Open/close bolt: ~0.9
Pull charging handle: ~0.7
Grab clip/handful of bullets: ~0.6
Load clip: ~0.5
Load single bullet: ~0.2
Extract and drop mag: ~0.3
Extract mag and save for later: ~0.7
Pull out and insert new mag: ~1.0 for box mags, ~1.4 for SMG drum mags, ~1.9 for LMG large drums/belt boxes
Connect belt (for belt-feed): ~2.3

Pros of new system:

  • Some of anims, for example, openting bolt, can be implemented for multiple guns
  • Tactical reloads and chambered rounds
  • Animation doesn’t plays from start if was interrupted

this is the biggest pros, i hate standing in front of a fence waiting for the reload to finish before i gonna climb.

i like this idea, considering im tired of being in a situation where my gun is empty and im meleeing the enemy with the stock and the soldier just frantically keeps reloading, giving me a earrape of reloading sounds

some games such as insurgency sandstorm have this implemented, and i must say its quite awesome to see such high level of detail, im hoping to see the same thing in enlisted.

i just wonder if this suggestion includes a extra depth of detail where if your pistol/gun isnt empty and you extracted the clip, interrupted the animation, then switched back to the gun, and you have a option whether you want to continue reloading or fire that single bullet that you still have chambered.
