(Yes, it would be cool to have some kind of related gameplay mechanic. But we can’t have nice things and it will never happen. So the 2nd best is a cosmetic. )
I thought about giving those to some non-gunner soldiers in MG squads to make them pseudo assistants. But I guess it could be avalable for everybody, no matter the class or squad.
That’s up to individual players. I can’t force ppl what to wear.
(Also MG gunners shouldn’t wear them if you go for historical look. It’s assistant’s job.)
I’m sure we brought it up in the past, but given the AI focus of Enlisted, there is ample opportunity to use a rifleman in an MG squad as a loader.
This would also enable a specific sequence where the loader enables the MG to fire belt fed ammunition, when the pair adopts a stationary position be it standing/kneeling supported or prone.
This would be a great way to balance belt fed MG fire, because you’d have to move in a manner that was conducive to your loader keeping up with you, and then using the command wheel to trigger the appropriate position in order to apply the belt fed fire or in the case of magazine fed LMGs a faster rate of reload. Just by my description you can see that it takes time to set up, but once set you can bring the hurt locker down on someone.
I hope that in future AI squad iterations they can re-work all MGs to utilise this loader gunner duo and then permit higher rates of fire or greater volumes of fire when the pair deploys doctrinally.
You can still run and gun as ppl do now, but obviously accuracy and volume of fire suffers accordingly.
But sad reality is that AI is meant to be useless, braindead canon fodder so players can see kill count go up. And the game itself is focused on run and gun so such mechanics don’t fit it.
Unfortulately we have a great opportunity but not even a tiny bit of will. We can’t have nice things, just wasted potential.
They’ll get around to it eventually. In the same way that WT evolved from just better looking models, to what they have now with super detailed vehicles, good ballistics and excellent physics modelling for movement and object interactions.
