fairly sure if an actual nkvd commissar would have noticed him having an NKVD knife, he wouldn’t have had a great time
I don’t think this “NKVD knife” was some exclusive secret police only issue.
Just a knife, but manufactured in late 1930s before the adoption of the NR-40 standard issue knife of 1940.
In any case, comrade Zaitsev was just testing it there,
