… The French were very likely aware of this though, and it does not appear AMX’s proposals were ever seriously considered for production or even prototype construction. They were little more than training exercises for AMX’s engineers to get back in the field.

The British did build their own backward firing tank destroyer : The Archer
It is basically a 17 pounder monted on a Valentine chassis. However the gun being too large for the small tank, it had to be facing backward, creating a weird design that still made it into service.
This one is probably the only backward firing vehicle ever mass produced.
(Archer in war thunder, where it is extremely awkward to use)
