The Idea
I’ve been thinking about a system where you would be able to have one of each, normal (not premium or battlepass), weapon from the opposing side in each campaign, kind of like battlepass weapons. For example you’d be able to have one MP40, MP38, Vz. 24 etc. as the Soviets in the Moscow campaign, with the same ability for Soviet weapons for the Germans. This would make the game a bit more varied in squad makeup and it would also give you a reason to play more.
How to obtain
There’s a couple ways you could implement the acquiring of trophy weapons:
- You could automatically unlock the weapon when you unlock it with its own faction. For example you’d start with a 1907 Mosin Carbine as the Germans, or as soon as you play one battle with the Soviets or both.
- a. You could unlock it by getting x amount of kills with the weapon as the opposite side. Or maybe some other challenges like survival and the like. (This would exclude pistols and secondary only weapons)
- b. Like a. but you’d need to unlock it with its own faction first before you can actually obtain it in the opposing faction.
Limitations
As stated before you would only be able to have one of each, this would be to not just make the weapons universal which would cheapen the different sides’ unique aspects.
With the new weapon upgrade system coming up, the one where you upgrade weapons using bronze orders, the trophy weapons could start off as their lowest possible level. In addition, the upgrades could be restricted to the one’s unlocked in its own faction’s upgrade tree.
Alternatively you could just obtain it as a max level weapon, like a battlepass weapon.
What do you guys think? Personally I think this would be a fun and interesting addition for the more hardcore playerbase.

I like the idea of captured weapons but in a very limited fashion. Historically most nations did use captured weapons so I think they will eventually come in the game. How about if you max the Russians you get 1 “golden order” PPSH for the Germans when you start playing them as a reward? Same for the Russians getting say an StG44? One weapon wont tip any balance anymore than the golden order weapons do now. A cool little trophy to show you played the other faction to max level while still being historical

That could also be an option, although I’d say that you’d get to pick which weapon you’d like to buy using that golden order. Like if you’d prefer an MP40 over an StG44. But yeah, that could work.

Sure, just a golden order redeemable for that faction. MG34, MP40 etc. In heros and generals you could get captured weapons but it was VERY difficult. You had to pull them off dead enemies and use them to get X amount of kills to unlock.

Or it could mean the player picked the gun up from a dead enemy…
Not really, since you’d be able to have a full ammo pool and able to refill ammo. You also start the match with the gun.
I am for this if there is one weapon, I stopped playing BF as sides could carry any weapons they chose, which I felt spoilt immersion and realism.
If very very limited fine with this.

The idea is interesting, but I’m with @44854715 here: They must not be common. Else, they could very well break balance even more and even break immersion, like in H&G right now, everyone can have everything from each faction (looks silly)
Perhaps rarities like gold order (limited to 1) that could be unlocked after a faction is maxed. There’s still premium squads, and I’m certain some will come equipped with captured things in the future.

I’m Commander Sheppard and this is my favorite post on the Citadel.
Many shooting. Very weapons. Such gold orders!

Okay all joking aside I really love this idea. Its unique, adds a little flavor, and by George it’s historical.
There are US troops using MP40s and Germans using Tommy guns in Normandy IRL , same is true on the eastern front.
I think it would be fun and easily balanced by limiting to 1 weapon.
