It’s pretty clear that tier 4 is no match for tier 5. And Japan is pretty underpowered.
Instead, we should have tier 4s fight with tier 3s, and tier 5s fight with tier 6s. OP weapons such as the FG42 2 and STG 44 would be moved up to tier 6. Strong, but not OP weapons such as the Mkb 42 would remain at tier 5. And although tier 6 doesn’t exist yet, it would be a good implementation for the reason stated above. Subsequently, tier 3 would not need to be down tiered into low/high BR, as the BRs would not be separated into 1+2+3/3+4+5.
Additionally, I think Gaijin should stop trying to add more tiers to Japanese researching tree. Because Japan doesn’t seem to have a lot of iconic weapons, and Enlisted just seems to be adding prototype weapons to Japan’s tier 4 as if they are running out of ideas. So I say, just leave Japan at tier 4. This way, Japan will only have to fight Tier 3 and 4 USA, and would not have to fight tier 5 and 6s Shermans with tanks limited to machine guns. In my opinion, this would make Japan easier to balance (although a bit weird since it would be the only nation without BR 5 in my suggestion).
Japan would permanently stuck in T1-2 if they are realistic, only thing they really have are majority Arisaka bolt action rifles, with a single type 99 lmg per squad
smg are rarely issue and only to elite units like paratroopers, most japanese troops only have bolt actions, so the current T4 meta of Type 2 smg and Sig 1920 spam makes no sense and is pure fantasy if you want to go with realism. Enlisted is no longer historically accurate for the sake of balancing.
what japan need is a japanese federov(type hei auto rifle 30 round variant) for assaulters
and type hei 20 round variant for normal rifle man
then they are pretty much good for, or even out compete the American in T5.
Planes are mostly equal, maybe buff them with bigger loads
For tank, japan has Ho ri.
Japanese will definitely have supremacy with infantry if the dev added type hei auto rifle, consider American won’t have anything resemble an assault rifle(even with tokyo arsenal now that thing is way better than anything American has for their assaulter). So Japan is very much ready for T5
And I don’t think it’s a good idea to continue the battles after World War II. AS44 and STG44 already have firepower equivalent to modern assault rifles, even stronger. In terms of game performance, they have a fast firing rate and almost no recoil, stronger than M16 and AK47.
Full power rifles such as the AVT40 and FG422 even have firepower far superior to modern assault rifles, and I don’t know how to balance this.
The post WW2 Timeline “Coming or Not Coming” to Enlisted? is not our concern.
What we should be concerned about, objectively speaking, is “when” it will come.
Enlisted could expand beyond WW2, but the community made it clear time and time again that they dont want WW2 and other conflicts to mix.
A Korean war campaign/scenario or any non-WW2 would need a completely separate playerbase and since we didnt even get a 3rd queue despite that being the most asked for change, such expanding are just dreams.
Well there is a bit more nuance to this, as sometimes it makes sense for that stuff to be in a WW2 era game, because in the case of something like the M20 Super Bazooka, it was designed in and built for that war, but only saw use post war because it wasn’t worth the logistic hassle for the ability to deal with the occasional big cat IRL, but in game would make sense to be added because it was the solution the Americans came up with to deal with Germany if they spammed big cats like they do in game.

stopped playing a while ago now, but had high tier, in some factions, as like here.
Is the only way they survived, is my guess, and see this going same way.
Which i will be absolutely happy with, now some trees in game are almost researched, need the Cold War/Vietnam/Modern, to keep the grind going

While I agree with adding t6 to the game to help separate out the tiers a bit more effectively, I think the Japanese DO need some stronger equipment. They might not have had as iconic of equipment, but they did have some options.
Just to put things into perspective though, look at the Engineer II squads as a baseline. The Americans can get them (along with the MG nest) at T2, while the Japanese don’t get it until t4.
What I’m trying to say, is that I don’t necessarily think Japan needs a T5 added, but they need a big overhaul to what tiers their equipment are in (and need some new stuff) to be able to hold their own at the equal tiers to the Americans.
In itself, tier 5 is almost spam of all kinds and what can you imagine adding with a tier 6, ah, I can already imagine a fighter that flies at 2000 km with 4 air-to-ground missiles, a tank with anti-missile systems, a 400mm armor with a 122mm cannon and now the soldiers who fight they look like jungernauts there with a .50 minigun
