Video of me dogfighting a Il2 on Moscow Campaign. I am in a 109-F1 with a single 20mm cannon. I did nothing but energy fight him, due to the IL2 insane turn radius. I felt like with the hits he took his flight maneuverability should have been severely damaged. At the end I ran out of 20mm and in my frustration rammed him, but it did nothing…LOL He kept flying for the entire match like nothing has happened. PLEASE FIX THIS MESS
PSA…yes i know i need to upload HD video. Still new to this
Nice flying, nice line ups, except for attempted head on! I have noticed cannons have damage drop off, with IL2 I do think something is up, @1942786 said they would review damage models, as this is not the first Moscow IL2 complaint… but on the whole damage is deemed ok by devs, it might be as IL2 armoured and low calibre shots just going into fuselage? It might be damage and server synch, or it is the range which you fire cannons, I can take out most IL2 but I don’t shoot until literally sitting on their wing!
The damage/flight model is wonky in this game but that’s not the reason why you were unable to shoot it down, the problem is the IL-2 itself (any model of it). Along with really low speed and insanely fast turn, it makes it a pain to shoot it down with anything. The best thing you can do is to try to go unnoticed and get really close to it and kill the pilot or damage a wing, otherwise you might spend the rest of the round trying to shoot it down.
One time in custom games I was in a Bf 109 G10 (two 13mm MGs, three 20mm Cannons) and there was a guy with a Bf 110 G2 (two 30mm cannons, one 37mm Cannon), both of us were shooting at a IL-2 (dont remember which one tho) and hitting most of our shots. Yet the plane was tanking all of it, I was seeing direct hits from the 37mm cannon and it was still flying like if nothing had happened.
Eventually we did shoot it down, but clearly there’s something wrong with it. To be fair, in real life those planes were really well armored but I doubt it was to this extent.
I just have a problem with the plane being able to fly and still drop bombs like nothing happened. You can see after several good hits on him, he was able to swing back around and still bomb the hell out of my team. I flew correctly and didn’t get into a turn fight with him. He should pay for those hits. Needs to be somewhat of a flight instability to make it harder for him to pull off tight turns. Or sluggishness. Something is up…
Stuka can often take a full load of LMG fire as well. Perhaps it’s even worse for IL-2, I don’t have much experience facing them. At the same time one rifle round from a bot on the ground can cripple you.
Damage model is very much off in this game. Flight model too, but that’s probably because they took a weird combination of arcade physics and hardcore first person view, which is only made worse by awful progression.
My theory rn is that IL2 in Moscow could be designed the same as the one in Berlin which meet higher caliber planes with more ammo. And your vid is gone though
On the other hand, Moscow IL 2 was in-game long before Berlin was released.
If both share same damage model that was buffed for purposes of Berlin… that would be nasty.
However, I doubt it, since I have some problems with planes being way too tanky in Normandy as well.
So, most likely, it is just badly overbuffed damage model.
ah well then that theory goes out the window ^^ thnx .
Same when it comes to Normandy just a bit but its weird. Sometimes they are not so tanky sometimes they can tank a lot. Ive even one bursted P47 couple of times but usually happens on head on engagements when their engine is exposed.
Il2 in Moscow how ever is more of an annoyance then Normandy overall in my opinion. But thats because you have been bullied for so long in your Stuka to then have to struggle to kill it when you finally get your fighter later on to get your revenge ^^
I doubt they will nerf the IL-2, or at least not anytime soon. The only thing you can do about it is what I said before, shooting the pilot or the wings is the most reliable way to shoot it down. Even then, its still a pain to do it.
