Thematic Berlin Event Squads Suggestion

Based on the recent “New Year’s Breakthrough” pacific war event squads, this is my suggestion for a similar event for berlin instead. These event squads would be notably different to other event squads, as all squad members would have the same gun. The axis squad is a Volksstrum squad desperately using whatever weaponry they still have, while the allies squad utilizes multiple Thompson submachine guns imported through the lend-lease program.

Over the course of WW2, the United States exported approximately 137,000 (~8% of total production) thompson smgs to the Soviet Union. These Thompsons were used in every major battlefield on the eastern front, and one of them is even a campaign unlock in stalingrad.

Three main varieties were sent through the lend-lease program, the m1928a1, m1, and m1a1.
The idea for this squad is that some red army soldiers have been issued these Thompson submachine guns and each soldier has a preference for one of them. So the composition of the squad would be something like this:
4 Assaulters - 2 m1a1, 1 m1 and 1 m1928a1
1 engineer - 1 m1

Axis - 9 man Mixed Weaponry Volksstrum Squad

Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-J31391_Berlin_Volkssturm_Ausbildung

During the final hours of ww2, Germany attempted to rely on the poorly equipped Volksstrum to help hold the Soviet Union back. The Volksstrum is already portrayed in the game, as a few campaign squads and 1 premium. However, none of these options really capture how poorly equipped the Volksstrum were near the end of the war without the player purposely giving their squads bad weapons. The weapon inventory of the Volksstrum in January 1945 would also really allow a mixed weaponry squad that is impossible for campaign at the moment.

If you want to take a moment to browse the inventory, here is a link to it

Essentially, you could create a rifle squad with old german, italian, french, russian, belgian, austrian, czech, dutch, and polish guns. A true display of weapon variety that would make for a very interesting squad. The squad itself would also have some panzerfausts in it, the Volksstrums primary role was anti-tank. Not to mention that the panzerfaust is unlocked really early anyway (level 6).

I suggest a squad composition somewhat similar to this -

Engineer - gewehr model 1898 (ingame already)
Bomber 1 - Carcano m1891 (ingame already)
Bomber 2 - Berthier Carbine (ingame already)
Soldier 1 - gewehr 1888 (not in game to my knowledge)

Soldier 2 - Carcano m1891 (ingame already)
Soldier 3 - kar 98 (ingame already)
Soldier 4 - Berthier Carbine (ingame already)
Soldier 5 - VZ. 24 (ingame already)
Soldier 6 - Mosin-Nagant (ingame already)

This is not to mention all the last-ditch weapons that were produced in small numbers in 1945. I mentioned many of them in this post here -

A mixed weapon squad with the german-made last ditch weapons instead of the left-over bolt action weapons would be just as fun imo. Getting both squads at some point would be ideal.

Concluding Remarks

These squads would be interesting and not create almost any new weapons, so they would be easy to make for the devs. I am interested in what you guys think about mixed - weapon event squads.

while this would be cool there isn’t a world on earth im grinding for bolties in Berlin whilst near tier 40 lol, just like the Japanese squad the Volksturm squad would be wasted and go entirely unused

I found a perfect gun for a German 5 man Squad in Berlin, they would be equipped with the MP-41(r) which was a Soviet Ppsh that was converted to 9 mm, 10,000 were converted so it’s perfectly reasonable to be added. Gun Jesus himself made a video on it today.

we already have a Volks 9 men squad using old Lebel, thought… While I love this particular squad, the Lebel shoots all over the place BUT where you aim at…

What I mean is I don’t think we really need another inferior 9 men squads. Now if those 9 men were equipped with vg1-5 (like they should be available to riflemen arleady, come on df…) it would make the squad not only interesting, but good as well.

Because 5 guys with big tommies (eheh) vs 9 civilians with crap starter guns… I already see ppl complaining :stuck_out_tongue:

I view it as a lot of various factors intersecting. On one hand some people view campaigns as an endless power grind, others view content as content. Not to mention Gold Order, Events, and Premiums that allow us with even more toys and squads.

Oh dear… I just noticed that either Sheldon Cooper was a Volkstrum, or he really managed to build a time machine and appeared at the wrong place wrong time…

Yes, but there is a line, and that line is bolt action event squads that don’t even have an engineer.

You’ve found out the truth you weren’t supposed to know, Men in Black is on the way😈

Tbh, if that squad came with mixed engies, assaulter with vg1-5 (come on df, vg should be riflemen!) and pzfausts like OP suggested, then yes, that’d be a very, VERY interesting squad to get…

I was very frustrated by the japanese rifle squad not having an engineer. Hence I made sure to include that a potential german rifle squad would at least have an engineer and maybe an anti-tank guy or two.

I totally understand that these squads wouldn’t be super balanced. But neither of these squads would hold up when compared to real campaign squads. They introduce some flavor into the campaign. I think keofox has said before that these squads aren’t meant to be great, maybe middling.

I just personally would just be really excited for squads with so many otherwise unaccessible weapons, would make the squads extremely unique.

There are plenty of other guns to pick from for the german 9-man. I just went with bolt-actions because that’s what the devs did for pacific, and I think bolt-actions is probably the most historically accurate weapon choice. However, I would also love if they had an assortment of the VG guns, I think you could include the vg-1, vg-2, and vg 1-5.

That’s totally reasonable point. I don’t think there is a way to really address your concern though. It would be difficult to balance an event squad to where it would be worth grinding for at high levels in berlin. The campaign squads by level 39 in Berlin are nuts. My attempted solution was to add an engineer and maybe an anti-tank soldier or 2 to the rifle squad so it’s at least usable at higher levels.

I think my event squad idea is consistent with the design philosophy of the developers. From what I have read, they don’t want to make these squads at all “meta”. They just want them to be a unique, middling squad that is outclassed by campaign squads.

I would love to hear any suggestions you have though on how to make this squad more appealing for high-level players though.

As long as they are unique enough, such as the naval infantry uniforms of the Red Navy, the insignia of the Praetorian Guard on the uniforms, the civilian uniforms and cuffs of the Germans, etc.

It’s sad that we don’t have any Soviet naval infantry uniforms or Fallschirmjäger uniforms available to unlock for free so far

I just want to jump in to say the Lebel is one of the most accurate guns in the game, and also one of the most powerful; doing over 23 damage at 100m.

I love the Lebel squad and the Japanese flag rifle squad; the type 99 long is comparable to the Lebel in damage and accuracy. I can do some real damage with those squads

I absolutely love the Japanese “flag rifle”, it’s always in my lineup, nothing wrong to say here.

I just cannot seem to aim true with the Lebel for some reason, and I mainly use bolties in all campaigns.

My guess as to why is that the Lebel requires more time to aim/shoulder before firing true… perhaps if I invest in the “+% aiming speed” perk that could correct my issue… Idk. It just feels so inaccurate compared to all my other rifles :frowning:
