The United Defence UD-1
The United Defence Supply Corporation was established in May 1941 to support the Allied war effort during World War II. They are best remembered for having designed the Marlin UD-42 submachine gun, but this was their first product, unveiled after the American entry into the war. It was a dual-caliber submachine gun chambered in both .45 ACP and 9x19mm Parabellum, with consideration for both the US Army and potential European users, such as resistance groups. Operationally it was a very basic straight-blowback gun with minimal furniture, designed to be as cheap as possible. The rudimentary “stock” was actually a spare 9mm barrel attached to a pivot, which could be switched out with the standard .45 barrel with ease. The gun fed from 20-round horizontally-fed magazines.
The UD-1 was submitted to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds for tests in April 1943 and went through only 180 rounds (.45 ACP) at a fire rate of 1150rpm. The tests were cut short when, during the mud tests, the gun completely failed to discharge. Representatives from United Defence attempted to remedy the problem by covering the barrel housing in masking tape to prevent mud getting in, but dirt still managed to seep in through the mag well and foul up the bolt. Unable to continue the tests, the UD-1 was rejected and the design was abandoned in favor of the more successful UD-42.

I have the UD-42 premium squad. I love the gun, but the hitting power is lower then the Thompson and Grease gun, so I don’t use it as much when I play level 1-2 as I tend to use my premium level 2 Thompson’s and M1A1 Grease guns. I guess it’s hitting power is in line with the Russian PPS42 and PPS43 SMG’s, but just under the MP40’s. However, the game can always use new weapons, so it would be nice if they introduced the original UD SMG.

I tend to look at it as a Thompson with no recoil as it’s got about the same RoF as em. Sucker is fast and stays on target. Truly, a gun that holds your hand just like Russian and German SMG’s. Lol

If it had the Thompson hitting power all the German players would be up in arms.

Yeah but being chambered in 9mm is what keeps it so flat. If it were in .45 and had the damage of the Thompson’s then its recoil would’ve been about the same as them too
But if they artificially inflated the damage, oh boy would that sucker be literal PtW. Would’ve been insane

I have got to the point that when I play level 1-3 Germans, I use 3 machine gun squads since the MG13 is good without a ton of recoil, and kills easier then the MP40. I used to use the Mod30, but I’ve gravitated over to the MG13 and like it better. The Allies will always be behind in that level with machine guns until the DEV’s allow one of the BAR’s to be dropped to level 2, then, at least for me the Machine gun department would be a wash. I don’t bitch to much about the SMG’s for the Allies, Germans or Russians at level 1-3, but the Germans definately have the advantage in MG’s.
Oh yeah MG 13 is fun dude. Love just crouching and burst firing that thing. When I got around to using it more Post Merge I realized between it and the MP 40 just how much German guns hold your hand after using guns like the Thompson for so long with its recoil. Even with their stupid dispersion, they’re super easy to control. Honestly my first reaction to seeing just how easy they were was “how do Germans ever lose with weapons like these.” Course we gotta remember, German mains are Germain mains. Lol. But yeah, fun stuff. I still run my usual combo of Assaulter, MG, and AT just because versatility, but triple MG certainly will get the job done

Something like this would be good, But it’s really sad there’s only a small handful of weapons the allies have that have more than a 265 muzzle velocity. If you’re looking strictly at muzzle velocity then that means the lanchester at BRII is the best SMG that they have for longer range accurate shooting of moving targets with more ease at a higher BR. And I get it SMGs aren’t meant to be used longer than point blank, But a lot of the other factions can hit stuff at 40 to 50 m away easily with their SMGs. Other factions all have SMGs above 300-400 in vast amounts especially the Soviets so we could definitely use something like this.
My vote is on the Sterling SMG being part of the tree at BR IV/V. That could make for a good higher tier weapon. While something like this would be a good BRII (possibly as an event weapon/premium). Effectively putting SMGs in a much better place for the allies with just a few weapons.

Yeah, up until the last couple months, I had not played even a level 3 Allies since they were almost always bumping me up to a level 5, so I had almost exclusively played level 5. I did put together a new level 3 only squad and have played some, but for the most part only win about a quarter to a third of the games, and in the past several weeks, I have only been winning about a third of my level 5 Allies. Germans lately level 1-3 I have probably been winning about 75% of the time. Haven’t played with the Russians for several weeks now, but they were almost 80%, but had started losing at least half the time the last I played them. So, it appears the favor is with the Germans now. But I will still be switching between Germans and Allies. BTW, my level 5 allies is almost always being crushed when I end up playing the Japanese. Almost wants to make me desert when the game loads and I see it’s the Japs. But, i soldier on.
