The solution to better soldier physics

Hello,
Today I want to talk about soldier physics. As we all know, soldier physics in Enlisted might be one of the worst examples compared to every other modern FPS game (including indie games)
I’m afraid devs aren’t planning on changing this horrible feature (looking at the OBT teaser pictures) so that’s why I’m proposing the solution to this issue and what are the worst problems of the current physic.
This can be fixed because HLL made great physics and that game is indie

1. Running

In Enlisted, Running animation is extremely simple and every soldier has the same animation.
When moving, soldier is hardly ever shaking which makes the player feel like he’s surrounded by robots.
When running, the rifle your soldier is holding is ALWAYS pointing down (see the picture)
The soldier himself is always looking straight in one direction and never moves his head which
is just… creepy
In this game where hundreds of soldiers are located on a small battlefield, looking at all those solders having the same animations kills the cinematic view. My friend watched the teaser for this game and asked me: ‘‘why are soldiers moving like Fortnite characters?’’

Here is an example of better running animations taken from Hell let loose

Here is another example taken from ww1 indie game - Tannenberg

You can see that these animations are much more detailed, realistic, cinematic and much more alive
To fix this, we need to add more running animations so soldiers can differ from each other. I suggest for devs to take a look at their competition like these 2 games I showed

2. Walking and Standing

When walking, Soldier is ALWAYS AIMING with his rifle even if the player is not. This is wrong on so many levels because holding a rifle on hip isn’t even modelled in this game :upside_down_face:

Here are examples of how it should look like from Hell let loose:

The soldier in the picture is holding an SMG but his not AIMING with it
The solution for this is adding an animation where the soldier is holding a gun at his hip

The same goes when the soldier is standing, he is always aiming when standing

3. Looking around

This is the worst animation of them all. Why?
Because it doesn’t even exist

Soldiers never move their heads when looking around, instead they always turn and spin their whole bodies like they are sliding on ice. The head is always fixated to look in one direction

This is how it should look like (taken from HLL again):

This is the best picture I could find, sorry

In hell let loose, animation allows you to turn your head until you turn it to the limit so your whole body changes the position.

4. Hip-firing

Hip-firing in this game can only be seen in 1st person but the animation will show like the soldier is aiming instead of hip-firing.

here is how should it look (taken from 2008 game Call of Duty: World at War):

Hell let Loose also has this animation but I can’t find any pictures and I couldn’t catch anyone doing this when I was playing the game so I don’t have any footage :expressionless:

I think you should do gifs/vids for the walking animations.

I’ll do it later

Right now I’m in a hurry

See you in 30 minutes

I totally agree with this.

Apart from these points, they should work further into improving first person animations, they feel too robotic and clunky

Pics aren’t a good way to show examples of good animation. However, I do agree that Enlisted needs several overhauls. Sound design, Animation, Balancing, and User Interface should all be polished.

I would also add animation of holding your weapon away from the body while runing for a longer time, like in HLL.
In my opinion it looks nice.

I’m glad you linked videos, however I’ve got to disagree with Tannenberg having good player animations. From what I see in the videos, soldiers still run around with robotic animations. Hell Let Loose is good though.

I understand Tunnenberg animations are far from good

BUT

IMO, they are much better than Enlisted animations

In my opinion they’re both equally mediocre.

Hmm… Idk

I will always choose Tunnenberg animations over the Enlisted ones

I like how Tannenberg has face and mouth animations. I think it’s quite neat

That could be great but I think we should add more detailed movements first and later focus on more advanced ones

I think it’s one of those covers from ww2 Figure Modells

Hey @5762269 @VoyoMayPL @TangledTestes

I was thinking, what about adding a better knocked-out animation too
A soldier doesn’t have to look like Fortnite character when nocked out

Make it look he is crawling on the ground and screaming

Good to know it looks like that :joy:
Another animation to fix.

it’s a fan art made with garry’s mod.

garry’s mod it’s one of the best tool for digital fan arts as you can do basically everything.

( just to point out ^^ )

Idk, why is it so hard to make a proper MG animation

Current animation still makes arms look longer

The ‘‘commander sticking out’’ animation is awful as well

He looks like a dummy

thanks for the info

Yeah, until now this hasn’t been fix or been update. I have been play HLL alot of time, i hate that game but I LOVE THEIR ANIMATION
I hope Deve will update more and make animation feel smooth, especially when u lie down and stand up right aways, it like a robot (or something more simple).
Hope The Final Release much be far better than now.
