The new system is incredibly restrictive. Some maps will probably never be playable. Unless you make permanent adjustments to the settings.
This is a time-consuming task that players should simply not be expected to do.
I think there is a simpler and easier way that would even make it possible to introduce early war maps.
First, we set a preset for all squads for example by year. ( Two preset slots are defenitly not enough).
- 1939
- 1940
- 1941
- 1942
- 1943
- 1944
- 1945
If the subdivision by years is too fine, you can just combine them differently:
- 1939 - 1941 early war
- 1942 - 1943 mid war
- 1944 - 1945 late war
Whatever.
Then we divide the weapons according to the available years. (here are just a few examples to illustrate this)
- 1939 K98, MP 40,…
- 1940 K98, MP 40,…
- 1941 K98, MP 40
- 1942 K98, MP 40,…,FG 42
- 1943 K98, MP 40,…,FG 42
- 1944 K98, MP 40,…, FG42, …STG 44, Erma EMP44
- 1945 K98, MP 40,…, FG42, …STG 44, Erma EMP44, STG 45
If the subdivision by years is too fine, you can also combine them differently like shown above.
This allows each player to preset their weapon configuration for each year per SQ and prevents late weapons such as the STG 44 from appearing in 1939.
Then Blitzkrieg maps (early war) are created and the newcomers then start in Poland, fighting their way through Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Norway etc. From 1939 until they reach 1945. Each map receives a time stamp with the date, e.g. Berlin April 20, 1945. And above all veterans can then also play the early war maps without restrictions. Only the available weapons are then predetermined. Newcomers are given several SQ so that they have K98, MP 40 and MG 38 at their disposal. Then it’s just up to each individual player to make the most of it.
With the weapon reserch tree, newcomers can then unlock the weapons they want to be able to play in the next higher year.
Whoever uses a K98 or an Mp40 or MG38 can play in all years. If you use an Erma EMP44, you can only play in the types from 1944 onwards. If a newcomer thinks he is very good, he can also play in Berlin or Normandy with the starter weapons. Here you could introduce an option button, for example: “Send me to higher battles.”
This approach is not absolutely perfect, but it is considerably better than what is currently being considered. And you have the advantage of being able to introduce all the major battles of the entire war as maps from the start and would be even closer to history than with this current half-baked plan.
And the more weapons you unlock at higher levels, the more theaters of war you can be sent to if you use the appropriate weapons. I also believe that this was what the developers actually wanted. Unfortunately this actually good idea was not implemented as it should have been. They tried to make it easy for themselves instead of putting a bit more brainpower into it.
