The M1A1 Thompson

I’m not sure how controversial this would be, but I think the M1a1 Thompson should have its magazine size reduced to 20 and be placed in BR2…

Hear me out first.

I’m gonna start off by saying 20 round Thompson mags were definitely used in WW2, and we don’t have a 20 round Thompson available to purchase with silver. That’s one of my smaller points, but now I’ll continue to the bigger ones.

The BSA 1929 Thompson is one of the few Thompsons in low BR. It has an outstandingly fast 750 rpm, while keeping the damage of .45 ACP ammunitions. But it is still in BR 2. And the reason it is in BR2 and not BR3, is because of its limited magazine size.

I’m sure if the M1A1 Thompson had its capacity reduced to 20 rounds, it would be worthy of BR2. Additionally, the M1a1 Thompson is one of the “worst” Thompsons overall. Of course, it’s still a good weapon, but is it really worth BR3? It has 600 rpm, which is significantly slower than the BSA 1929 Thompson, Australian Owen, Soviet PPS and the Italian OVP/Beretta M1918s. BSA 1929 Thompson would still remain as the best Thompson in BR2 even if my suggestion was implemented. Apparently, the BSA 1929 has better single shot horizontal recoil as well!

And lets compare the Thompsons to the PPSh41. As we seen from other factions, having a smaller magazine drastically reduces your BR from 5 to 3. And the PPSh41 box mag even has better dispersion to go along with it!

So why did I want the Thompson to be downtiered in the first place?

Well as I said earlier, there are no 20 rnd Thompsons available for silver…

And also, I think it would be awesome to wield Tommy guns, like gangsters from the prohibition era. Even if the M1A1 was heavily nerfed to the point where it’d almost be unusable, I’d still use it. The Thompson is just too iconic of a gun to not use.

But to make it on par with the M3a1 of the same battle rating, magazine size should also not be the only thing nerfed. Perhaps dispersion or recoil may need to be nerfed as well.

What are you guys thoughts on the M1A1 Thompson?

Oh I didn’t realize; I’m looking at its stats and it appears even better than the BSA 1929?

I think that adds to my point even further.

Much faster reload and dispersion as well

its a neat little gun. One of the few thompsons I actually liked. (havent tried thompsons since Iron sights patch)

They already did it with the Beretta M38, so this shouldn’t be very controversial.

I wouldn’t mind a 20 ammunition mag tommy for br 2. But! No nerfs for them!

It would be fine. Afterall, axis got a similar case with it’s beretta smg: the 40 rds one is br 4. But the same one using a 20 rnds magazine, is br 1.

A 20 mag tommy would really be fine at br 2!

@Ron_McKracker was faster. Exactly what he said.

Damn I didn’t realize how many times they did this. PPSh41 was the only one on the top of my mind

I’m for it. Don’t see why we shouldn’t have a Thompson down there. Better than the Lanchester that’s for darn certain

The M1 Carbine also had a 30-round mag due to the M2 Carbine coming into the war in October 1944. I doubt they will add it, though.

Lanchester is definitely overrated. Many people just pick it just because its higher up in the tech tree. I’d argue the M50 Reising, aka the first smg you unlock is better.

Not sure against the Reising, but definitely an upgrade over the Sten. That absolute lack of recoil is great

Just give some useful smg instead.

I kinda enjoy playing BR2, MP40, Sten, Thompson and box mag PPSH should be all the same BR for the feeling of it alone.

Good idea! I think they could do something similar with BAR 1918a1, with a similar nerf of some kind. That way all the thommies and BARs aren’t clogged in BR 3 and only the best of them are ever used.

While at it, there did exist 10 round magazines for FG42 and 5 round mags for SVT/AVT. Also have seen discussions about 10 round mags for STGs / MKBs recently.
