The Grind In Enlisted Is Not A Problem, The Reward System Is (IMO)

Disclaimer, that I am a 7 day old Enlisted player, a F2P player and thus this is only my observation of the game up until now. TL;DR down below.

The Grind - Not Problem, Gameplay Fun

The grind is not a problem in Enlisted? Yes, because the gameplay is fun. The maps are awesome, the guns feel great, the mechanics of squad management is unique and having AI is pretty cool compared to other FPS games out there. The different classes are fun in each way, there is a lot of flexibility and strategy going on for an FPS game. All in all, the gameplay in itself as a whole is very fun.

Therefor, the grind is not a problem, if a gameplay is fun. If the grind is fun, then it’s not a grind, because it’s not dull or obnoxious.

The Problem - The Reward System, Lack of Resources & Flexibility

Main reason why I don’t want to play Enlisted are the lack of certain resources (the green cards - that let you change the upgrade selections tree & the bronze cards, that let you upgrade your soldier and guns). Enlisted created this great squad management system where you can optimize squad to your liking (in terms of squad members, guns, etc.) But, at the same time, Enlisted cuts you out of flexibility and verity of squads management system, which contradicts itself.

Story Time #1

E.g. I have a Flamethrower squad and I want to try if it’s better to have:

  1. 2 engineers + 1 AT Gunner or
  2. 2 engineer + 1 Machine Gunner or
  3. 1 engineer + 2 Assaulters or etc.

But, because I don’t have the green order change card (whatever its name is) I have to permanently decide without even trying in battle on what to choose - forever and ever! It hurts the players and fun, because they can’t try out different tactics and try out different members in their squad. The whole squad management system crumbles. I don’t want to watch someone’s YouTube videos to determine which one is better for my uses, I want to test it out for myself and I can’t do that! At least give us a 1 free change or an option to reset the whole upgrade tree, but at the cost of squad level going to 0. Just give us more options to change and tweak things to our liking! Please do something about this. I can’t be the only one that hates they can’t tweak and change their squads over and over to find what really works for them. This is, beside the gameplay, where the Enlisted shines!

Story Time #2

E.g. I am playing the Normandy, and I am about to reach level 13. After level 13 (after unlocking mortarman squad), there is really no reason for me to keep playing the Normandy. I have all my squads to desired level and perks, I have the guns I need, I have the different squads, so why should I keep going over and over again on the same maps, same faction, same this, same that, same campaign, etc. if the amount of XP needed to get to a new level just keeps going up Up UP without the rewards following.

TL;DR

At the end of the day, I guess you have to options:

  1. Decrease the grind, but keep the same rewards
  2. Keep the grind, but increase the rewards

The second options is better I think, because the company can keep the precious monetization ($$$) for those people who just don’t want to grind or enjoy having a wider experience (e.g. more squads in battle), but at the same time F2P players can get much more rewards for that hard but satisfying i.e. “worth it” grind. The grind is not a problem, because the gameplay is fun. But, the reward system is very scarce with given resources for the grind, making the grind just not worth it terms of resources after some point.

Again, just my 7 day old opinion, so not really sure what is best for the game, but wanted to point out that grind is not a problem due to gameplay being fun. But, the grind is just not worth it due to lack of rewards I get at the end of it. All the best.

Guess I’m not sure what faction you play both get much better weapons far past level 13 and both are fun in the higher levels. US probably hits its peak with the Jumbo and the crazy good P47 but the Germans are a real power house at level 30+ with the Panther, MP43 and Panzerfaust.

I mean, sure. I understand that there are rewards later on. But, to reach level 27 or level 30 from my position (level 13) it would take the same amount of time as to playing Moscow and Berlin at the same time and reaching the level 10 in both of them.

I would say that the second option brings more of a new life to gameplay (in terms of map, weapons, etc.), compared to just playing one campaign until ending levels.

I agree with you overall. Most unlocks are filler to make the grind take longer and make you want to get premium. It’s all by design

Op, I don’t have any issues with the above, but, I do also come from the times where games like cod1, cod2 or medal of honor had a limited number of maps and weapons and we still played it 24/7 over and over again.

The grind isn’t a problem, the game content isn’t a problem. The game it’s actually ment to be played besides grinding for the next level.

Either you enjoy the fps content in it, or this isn’t the game for you if you only focus on grind.

Also, you can get more green squad cards on the batle pass and or change the selection with gold, if you are a f2p player and don’t intend to invest, I don’t have an answer besides deal with it.

Game it’s rewarding, if you play Alot, do well, have BP and or premium.

Latter campaign content its fun as hell (overall) and its worth fighting for.

Mhm, I understand your point.

You are right. When I zoom out a bit I do see how I got too much into the talk about levels, grind, cards and etc. But, I agree, there is no problem with the grind. The FPS content in itself is good.

I guess that is fair. I could change it with the gold (forgot about that), but the battle pass gave me only one for free, but as you said “deal with it”, so maybe F2P players should not get more, maybe that hurts the overall monetization, I don’t know I am not a game developer or manager.

At the end of the day, I would just like more options to customize our squad management for free, because it’s really crucial thing as mentioned above with my “story time #1”. You can make it grindy, but at least give us more options please. I guess it will come down to good will from the game designers (developers, managers, etc.), if we get more options beside paying up to change these things. All the best.

It might be an issue new players may be affected more than guys like me.

We know befor hand what soldier types or weapons we want on our squads even befor we unlocked them. Most if not all squads we play are the same regarding composition. And it’s actually something we might not change on the long run, maybe it’s considerable if meta changes, a weapon is introduced on a type of soldier or we are simply bored with it.

But I agree, more could be given to f2p players, but pay users like me would get even more than we currently get.
The monetization is all messed up currently… And I get it, it’s a beta test at the end of the day.

Topics like yours do actually make Alot of sence and we hope to see more of them. It’s for the good of the playerbase and player retention in the game, but, it’s indeed something I personally don’t feel the need to be changed if we consider the business aspect.

As for you, since you are new in-game, I hope you stay and engage more with the community in this forum.

I think it is, at this time.
Any new comer even if he paid money, still very hard to catch up with majority of top players. (Many “top players” only stay at one faction. Because switching to a new faction grind from start is pain for him too)
I too, will soon grind Normandy at your level.

Actually at start, <180000 XP per level is not that hopeless

But grinding a long time but unlocks nothing (not appealing at all)

Is a big problem at later stage.
It take me 3 whole day of my game time to bypass LV27 to get LV28.

Hope dev someday knows to add branch tech tree for campaign levels.

You forgot BAR and tommy gun… Allies are not in a bad place!
