The D-Day Deserter Dilemma

The amount of people that desert Allied D-Day Invasion is getting out of hand. (Screenshot below)

Most people will load in and quit on this map after seeing it in proportions dissimilar to any other map I’ve experienced (even Armored Train).

It’s a shame because even with all the deserters on one side, the games are still very competitive. I think if people stuck around they’d realize how fun this map is and how easy it can be for Allies to win. Fighting your way up the valley and gaining control of the hills to flank the enemy is some of the most intense, strategic fighting you can get in this game. Having more humans on your team is a big help and if you leave, you’re directly part of the reason that this map can be a grind for the Allies that stick around.

Seldom do you get to play a D-Day invasion in a PvP game. Typically it’s seen in games as a PvE campaign and many mods of other games work to create their own version but here we get it in standard rotation, which is a HUGE treat! If you are a common deserter on this map, I encourage you to stick around, communicate with the team, and just enjoy the iconic experience that is D-Day!

Also a tip if you don’t enjoy flanking bunkers; just take control of the top of one of the hills. You’re guaranteed lots of kills and can significantly slow the enemy advance. This map is king of the hill as much as it is capture the control points in the valley. (And also I’d avoid running directly at the front of a bunker )

I love playing Allies on this map (maybe it’s just the patriot in me) and wish others would stick around for the fun (and wins) to be had!

Hum? Do they? The last time I played D-Day we streamrolled the Axis

Exactly! People gotta stick around.

I much prefer playing Allies to Axis on this map but Allies always seem to have the deserters. Watch your scoreboard the next time you play D-Day, it happens quite a bit.

They leave because it’s a pain in the ass that’s HUGELY imbalanced in favor of the germans. The machineguns are one thing but the entire map is basically you charging over an uphill slope where there’s only a small FEW places that are convenient to put rally points in after you get off the beach. It’s insanely easy for germans to farm using tanks whereas allied tanks are essentially worthless due to the limited traversal height of your main guns and the slope.

In Axis Tunisia i leave “Khaifa Caves” for the same reason, i maxed campaign for them last season and have fun but certain maps i see it and i IMMEDIATELY “nope” out. I’m willing to fight out on D-Day but unless allies have a skill advantage, you are going to lose even before the game has started and that’s no fun. In fact it can be an absolute waste of your time/your boosters if it gives you this map.

Honestly, something they should do post-merge is just give us a list of all the maps and let us select a few maps we want to get matched with less often. If people were playing LESS of the maps they hate the most, they would probably be willing to stick around and play the few times they matched with it. Personally i’d love it just because this game has a tendency to stick me in the EXACT, SAME MAP over and over and OVER again. Once it gave me the exact same map EIGHT TIMES IN A ROW. By the ninth time i left every single game it matched me in till it gave me something fresh and i didn’t care how many people i left hanging because wtf don’t do that to people.

I mean I desert a match when my team refuse to do te bareminimum to win the game while I break my back to carry them, is a waste of time

axis has default spawns 70m away from objectives, basically indestructible forever lasting rally points with no queue, never ending reinforcement, so you have to push HARD, but as we all know attacker hardly ever push. I love this map in terms of design, it’s the best looking map here, but the gameplay and teamwork oh boi

I’d love if they add like couple of independent bot ai squad to allias, it would help the push and create more cinematic experience

you need relatively good team for this map and some people who actually know how to build rally points. sadly average IQ of enlisted players leave lots to be desired so you hardly get good team.

btw it seems like i am getting this map most often out of all the maps in normandy, so there is also map fatigue.

Dday for allies is about good tankers spawning in and sending HE through bunker viewports, but also scanning for mg fire from other positions too, flanking rallies on left right side, don’t keep spawning on same side if you know they are expecting you… Air should take out tanks and enemy planes, if all the above happens you win!

This picture is too disadvantageous for the attacker, not because of the machine guns but because of the high ground on both sides.
Defenders can easily flank you at a cost to you trying to counter them
At the same time, it is difficult for tanks to advance in this kind of terrain.

First objective - use a tank to clean bunkers and a plane to destroy enemy rally points.
Second objective - it is best to attack from 2- 3 sides or use paratroopers
Third, fourth and fifth objective - use the tank to climb up to the hill on the right side and shred enemy infantry

If let me stay, I will only stay in the tank or plane. We used to have effective smoke artillery and smoke grenades, but now we have nothing.

Haha, I still have them, but I won’t use them on D-Day.
Now we only have tanks and planes. But not everyone can be the lucky ones.

I don’t know how long you’ve been a player, but a couple of years ago it was hell to be able to play that map as an ally. Today I see it much more balanced and it may be more than possible to win. Hell, I’ve actually played more games where the Axis was tamped than the opposite.

I desert dday sometimes…

Because I just hate this map. Might play it from time to time, but maximum once per day, it’s just not pleasant to me.

Deserters are so strange to me. I play this game to have fun win or lose.

That’s the point…
I desert when it isn’t fun. Dday map is annoying to me, I don’t like it.

For many others, it’s Berlin choo choo map.

It’s not even about win or loss…

Since the Germans have bunkers, my suggestion is to let the US military use 356mm naval gun support.
You can’t just give the defense such a huge field advantage.
So let’s make those battleships no longer just backdrops.

Attackers have one nice advantage though, which is really fast capture times.

Oh nice! I love this

I love playing allies on normandy because of how unbalanced it is.

This would be interesting. It would be rad to call it in as support fire using a radio operator.
