The Christmas Offensive (Operation Wintergewitter) Christmas event

BACKGROUND

Operation Wintergewitter, also known as the Christmas Offensive or Battle of Garfagnana (German: Unternehmen Wintergewitter, English: Battle of Garfagnana), was the code name for an attack launched by German forces and the Italian Social Republic against Allied positions in the Garfagnana region, between 26 and 28 December 1944, as part of the Italian campaign of the Second World War.

The operation, the only offensive action launched jointly by units of the Wehrmacht and the National Republican Army during the war, was directed against the US units of the 92nd Infantry Division, causing them to retreat and leading to the reconquest of some villages in the Serchio valley; the offensive was then stopped by the prompt reaction of the Allied units and the lack of reinforcement troops, and the Italian-German units returned to their starting positions by 30 December 1944.

EVENT

The event includes two squads one Italian and one American + maybe some winter decorations or decals

SQUADS

4th Alpine Division “Monterosa”
image

classic squad of 5/6 Assaulter + engineer ( engineer with the ability to use assault weapons like the rest of the unit)

the RSI uniform has remained almost identical to the original REI one with minor differences such as the change of the royal stars with the fascist gladius

92nd Infantry Division

classic squad of 5/6 riflemen + engineer

Regarding the uniform there is not much to say it is essentially identical to what we have in the game, DF just needs to change them to black soldiers (which would make them the first African American soldier squad in the game excluding the premium Tuskegee)

WEAPONS
about the weapons i think they should not have any unique weapons so that both new players and veterans can enjoy these unique squads at any BR they want

MAB 38/42 for Monterosa
Garand M1 for 92nd Infantry

that’s all
what’s your opinion?

Some really nice suggestions indeed. But I would disagree on the weapons part. For me personally, the major appeal of an event squad is their own unique weapon. I would give the Alpini the Scotti Naval Rifle and the Buffalo guys the Bendix-Hyde Carbine respectively.

I know that weapons are very attractive but the impossibility of changing weapons blocks the squad to a single BR and for new players it could be useless to use them because they do not have a BR3 line while for veterans BR5 would be less powerful than what the TT already offers
give them the possibility of using TT weapons or simply being able to change my unique weapon (which will remain usable only by that squad) it would be much more convenient for everyone in my opinion

I would prefer to keep the ARs for assault engineer squads

Fair enough. But I just don’t know. If that is the case we can be getting some niche TT squads instead. Event squads should be something really unique.

squads without unique weapons have already been presented several times (like the recent radio operators with rockets) but for the weapons let’s leave it to DF, they could throw them to BR1 like BR5

Yep. But I don’t really find these kind of squads to be that appealing. Perhaps I am harking back to those days where you couldn’t get multiple copies of GO weapons.

If DF gave us the ability to also change unique weapons (which will still be usable only by that squad ) we could see a big resurgence of many event squads.

Let’s be honest, there are many weapons but between TT, event, premium and gold orders DF risks running out of arsenals like Japan which barely has material for TT

Very true indeed. Giving players the ability to swap out event weapons for something else sounds like a good middle ground to me.
