a lot of players are enthusiatnitc about unique campaign suggestions and really want to see them in game.
i totally undrstand. ww2 was the biggest conflict ever happened but there are big problems about some campaigns. Some conflicts are still too controversial today, they are political landmines.
1- balkan campaign: general 20th century history of balkans are a huge controversy topic by itself already.
when axis invaded yugoslavia and greece, realy fighting between armies was short and germans easily stormed balkans. Real high deathtoll occured in post invasion period. A lot of local inhabitants collaborated with inavders and the resistence movements also fough against themselves for ideological/power struggle reasons
chetniks, ustahse, grrek communists and royalists etc…
actually and weirdly; % 80 of kia happened between the skirmished that occured among those groups not direct fights against main axis armies.
2- sino japanese war. another huge controversial topic. Even more risky than balkans. Chinese government will cencor or totally ban the game anything related to chinese history in first half of 20th century
3-Korean war: same issue with sino japanese war. most of the land forces of communist league in korea were chinese volunteers.
4- poles are still very salty about the combined invasion of russia-germany. both commited horrible atrocities against polish people.
For the sino japanese war and Korean war company I think censorship isn’t that much problem. We all knew mainland China will get its own server and will be run by a Chinese company that the game will be difference from what we have (just like war thunder), so all that they need to do at that time is not to include those campaigns.
They are a company, their goal is to earn money. Why will they implement a campaign that can’t be implement in Chinese server so they can only gain profit from that campaign in international server?
issue is not just censoring but a possibility of outright ban of entire game from chinese market. if we were talking this 15-20 years earlier this wouldnt be a problem but now it is . no company would take this risk

There are quite a few of these video games, they just mostly come from Chinese developers and so are not known to Western players. There is a very big market for such titles within China, so much so that Chinese players have made a lot of mods based on the Company of Heroes and Battlefield series (even including Call of Duty 5, which replaces the Stalingrad level with the Battle of Nanking).
I know of at least one operational WWII MMO FPS mobile game that adds soldiers from both the KMT and CCP sides, and there is also at least one modern FPS about the Korean War in development. Mainstream game developers don’t like such titles more because these are different and less known than other WWII battlefields, meaning they bring less economic benefit (I’m honestly surprised that users on this forum can remember that China and the Balkan countries were also involved in WWII)
