The ammunition quantity on most guns is ridiculously low

Now, i know “you can just pick enemy weapons” , but that’s really a band aid over a gaping, bleeding wound.

As is stand now, there is no reason to only have 3-4 magazines/clips for each weapon, especially on bolt rifles and M1 Garand.

The lack of proper scavenging mechanics (Being able to pick up ammunition on dead teammates, scavenging grenades and health kits) and the extremely rare resupply boxes (which are really only useful if you have spare magazines… What a joke) that are not even spotted on the map for you to see make it very likely to run out of ammunition if you engage in any kind of battle for more than two minutes.

When (if) they improve the ammunition situation to be more readily available to resupply, then they can reduce the total amount of ammunition

Pretty much all rifles could have their ammunition capacity doubled or even tripled. The whole point during that time of having stripper clips is that you can carry a lot of it for cheap and minimal weight. How any kind of infantry only carry 4 5 rounds clips to battle is insane.

its meant to get you to equip ammo packs, but that mean you cannot have backpack (extra medkits) or grenade sash
in addition, this means less people will use secondary weapon skill for squads since it is mutual exclusive
i think is dumb, i often run out of ammo and all I can find is crappy carbines on the ground
in addition to the addition, the ammo packs that give a reasonable amount of ammo are very far in the tree

i hope they reconsider this mechanic

What a stupid mechanic. If the intention is to force us to unlock extra ammo for all our squads, then count me out.

Why cant we have spare ammo in our packs. Or anything besides just medkits for that reason. It’s weird

i like this idea

i have solution, 2 (3) parts

  1. no mutual exclusivity between “extra gun” and “backpack”
  2. you put things into generic pack item (instead of separate ammo pack, item pack, grenade pack)
  3. add extra ammo item (this should be free, honestly)
this way, each soldier is equipped with plenty of ammo, and if they want more grenades (or different grenades), or more medkits they can sacrifice ammo capacity

i have not use ammo or grenade pack yet, so i do not know if it add visual to soldier
but it would be cool if having ammo or grenade in this generic pack would add ammo/grenade pack visuals to soldier

It is absurdly low, it makes combat very frustrating when you’re in the zone so to speak but you run out of rounds. Personally, I’d prefer soldiers to carry 10-12 stripper clips of ammunition for bolt-action guns, and 8+ for semi-auto. Gives a respectable 64 rounds for Garands, 80 for SVTs and Gewehrs.

Point is, resupply boxes shouldn’t be necessary, just nice to have in case you do get lucky enough to live 5+ minutes in battle and are willing to give up your current position for more bullets. Right now however if that box isn’t strapped to your back you’re asking for a bad time.

Hidden and Dangerous 2 did that actually with the visible equipment on your soldiers, it was really cool.

Why not just put an engineer in your squad and set down an ammo box if you need ammo? Hell, you can even send a “Request Ammo” message to your squad if you do. Ammo has never been a problem for me, as there are solutions to the problem. Ammo boxes, sidearms, secondary weapons, looting from corpses, taking extra ammo in your kit, etc.

not sure but i do not think all squad can take engineer
and if they can take engineer, it is in one of those mutual exclusive upgrade areas so you may be locked out of engineer, so building an ammo box often is not possible. in addition to this, game is too fast paced and not teamwork focused enough to allow for a quick ammo box build on the front line when even running away will just get bullet in back
sidearms are more of a absolute last resort, especially as the first pistol for soviets are super crappy nagant revolvers and then very weak tk1926’s
backpack takes up slot of secondary weapon in upgrade tree and weapons of same ammo type do not stack so taking 2 rifle does not do anything.
often times loot from corpses is not enough, infact i have picked up many guns almost out of ammo myself!
and lastly taking ammo in kit means cannot take secondary weapon or extra grenade or extra medkit

i think my idea is best as it provides most power to the player without being something OP
because I do not think extra ammo is OP, even for machine guns

lastly, i kind of prefer CBT method where it was perk for extra ammo
give up some fist-points (whatever they are called) for more ammo
this would stop soldier from getting as many other perks of that type

i think more ideas in this thread would be gook

If you can have an engineer in your squad, maybe, but even then it’s not a good solution. Many squads are unable to have an engineer at all and it requires you to sacrifice another role in the process.

It may be a good solution for you, but the problem is still there for many other players

Yup, there is already a weight mechanic in the game. So it could be a proper game mechanic to adjust how much ammunition you want. The more you have, the heavier so it can affect your speed and stamina, so it feels pretty balanced anyway. You could also bring more ammunition to your primary or choose to bring a little less and carry a secondary instead.

OK, so what do you expect here? To be able to do absolutely everything with no downsides? I don’t see the problem with sacrificing another role. Unless you build your squad to be a generalist, it’s not going to happen.

100%, There should be a better inventory system so you can choose the exact quantity of ammunition you want to bring. The more you have, the heavier you get and it could affect what else you can carry and reduce your overall speed and stamina. There is already a weight system in the game, they just have to use it!

Bruh. I’m not asking for unlimited ammo. Just pack extra ammo before, i don’t know, going into the Second Fucking World War.

Also, there is a weight system in the game. More ammo = more weight, which can reduce stamina and overall agility and speed. It’s all the point of managing properly your squads, you can’t just pack a 1000 rounds on Ivan and expect him to run around at full speed.

Yes, and not only for ammo. The whole menu is a bit clumsy. Why have to go to [manage soldiers], click a guy, click onhis weapon slot, and then select the weapn and drag and drop it onth the slot?

Just an inventory whindow where one can drag&drop any item onto a desired soldier, also on the main [soldiers] menu would help a lot…

I’m always out of ammo, and I think I’ve seem an engineer throw down an ammo crate precisely once. It’s infuriating!

I really enjoy the low ammo amount. Running out of ammo led some of the most fun gameplay situations I had with this game, such as playing hide & seek upstairs at a control point and stabbing people, going on a long killstreak with like 4 different looted weapons, making sure your last shots count, etc.

Giving players significantly more ammo willy-nilly can be really OP and should come at a disadvantage - I think the ammo packs are fine. Maybe you could choose to take even more ammo with you at the cost of not having a medkit. Or it could be a rare “weapons perk” of which you can have only one, deciding between more ammo, faster reload speed, less recoil, etc.

Another option could be to have ammo transfer as a squad upgrade, so you could press F on a bot to give you an extra mag if they use the same ammo type.

You can ask your bots for any kind of ammo if you run out of your, even if they don’t use the same weapon. But they only can give you one magazine/clip at the time.

The problem is that squads are not remotely self sufficient with starter kits and that you very often don’t have the ammo to do any kind of advanced movement. You can’t counterattack because you used all your ammo defending, you can’t repulse an attack because you fired all your shots taking a trench, so you are absolutely tethered to an ammo crate at all times. If your engineer gets sniped because you needed to control your anti tank rifle then it really is tough cookies, you haven’t taken enough rounds to take out a single tank, let alone multiple.

Ammo bags are worthless though, the small ones give you either 10% more ammo or 1 more mag/clip, whichever is greater.
