The chauchat is too slow-firing to be a machine gun, slower than the SVT-38, so it might be better to think of it as a semi-auto rifle that gets the performance degradation of a machine gun.
However, it is certainly a fun gun.
Best used as a powerful semi-auto. single or two-shot blasts are quite efficient, or so Iāve found.
Full-auto RoF is shockingly bad, and coupled with its recoil, makes it a poor performing MG.

A Chauchat could be a neat addition to Germany since they were used by various countries that Germany occupied
It could even be a dual Allied and German weapon where both factions can receive them. Not to mention variants as well

Supposedly, it got changed because it was too confusing for friends & foes. Colour made it seem like an enemy, according to devs.

If i remember correctly, it was in the beta, where germans had grey bluish clothes and soviets had brown/yellow/white clothes in moscow, and a lot of people complained that the blue chauchat squad looked too much like the germans, and was to difficult to decide from the germans. Therefore they replaced it to make them fit to the soviets moreā¦
But since now the soviets got gray/blue coats and the germans got brown/white coats, there is no reason for the chauchat squad to not get back its blue coats, as it would not be different to the current accepted customization

It never arrived in Japan and was subsequently therefore never used by Japan, hence has nothing todo in Japanese Army in Enlisted.
Enlisted should represent WW2 as Historically as possible, a Japanese Tiger is would be a bad addition.
They never had it so therefore should not have it in-game.
Also it would take away from the flavour of Japanese unique vehicle pool and water down Tiger being German Tank.
