Tech Tree Bloat - the Great Non-Debate

Everyone agrees tech tree bloat is a problem.
Everyone talks about it. Repeatedly.
And yet, everytime time I’ve seen someone propose a solution,
the conversation magically shifts to why that idea won’t work,
or how it’s “not the right fix,”
and we end up right back where we started:
complaining.

It’s like no one actually wants to solve the problem, they just want to keep complaining that it exists.

Meanwhile, content stagnates becaus apparently everything new also has to be “unique”. Subfactions struggle to grow. Current gear can’t be expanded upon. And cool new weapons and vehicles get stuck in limbo because the current system doesn’t have room for them. It’s a self-inflicted stalemate.

Eventually, we’ll have to pick:
a flexible system that can support new content,
or an ever-growing list of things that “should be in the game” but can’t be,
because we’re afraid to harm the tech-tree more.

Just laying this out there for people to think about…

And remember: if all roads lead to complaining, maybe stop building roundabouts.

Folders, need I say more?

Certainly a step forward.

Someone might say “This doesn’t solve anything”,
I don’t care, I want to ask instead “how can we expand upon this, make it better?”

Folders and give them xp discount for every next researchable foldered item, one finished? 80% xp needed for a 2nd item, 3rd = 65% xp needed for 3rd foldered item.

A great addition continuing on from a previous suggestion, rather than pulling a brother down!

I can’t believe complaining about complaining is working.

Weapons like the two AVTs and the two FG 42 IIs could be unified into one weapon in order to mitigate bloat.

You could then choose what characteristics the weapon could have e.g. Simply researching one FG 42 II but being able to choose the sniper variant to buy or not.

Also a great idea, unlock the basic weapon, choose in what configuration and what role it comes in.

That’s actually brilliant, would let us add dumb stuff like a third Bren gun (Mk III), just because we can.

I agree that there isn’t really such a thing as “bloat”. Content is content

Good perspective, and I agree.

The problem lies in that filling the tech tree slows down progression. More content is (almost) always good, but add enough things and eventually it’ll be impossible for people to progress past tier 2 research, that’s why some change is warranted.

Again, that’s why folders exist. Ideally, all Thompsons and BARs should be foldered (maybe leaving the A2 variant on it’s own because it has a unique feature). A lot of German SMGs can be foldered, such as MP 38 and 40.

I honestly don’t know how hard it is for the Devs to folder these weapons. And to add the weapons into the right tier. There is no way BR II guns should be in Tier IV. Or any gun not in the tier that reflects it’s BR.
