Team Balance Issues (December 2024)

I’m a BRI player, but I’ve been playing Enlisted for a few years
Lately I’ve been noticing that matches where teams are balanced are very rare.
Most maps are lost or won in incredibly overwhelming fashion (even allowing the game to choose the country for us) and my team loses more often than it wins
I’ve also noticed that there are still deserters and/or players who are AFK when selecting the squad (sometimes, it seems that by the end of the map, half of the players have deserted and/or are AFK)
Team Balance Issues

What’s going on with the current state/logic of the Balance system?

Edit (2024.12.10):
In this post below, I sumarize all I read until now.

It’s just an old problem
This is a more casual PVP game
Everyone is pursuing cheap or pathetic emotional value and superiority
So officials refuse to use the ability-based housing system to stop seals from killing penguins
So
When you encounter a group of seals but most of your teammates are idiots and casual players
Or when you have maps and modes that you absolutely hate
Your only option is to run away

Since they don’t want to take responsibility
Then we have no reason to be responsible for them

they should give afk players and Deserters a penalty like a 30-60 minute waiting period between matches

Then more people will leave the game
Because they have to choose between forced eating of shit or time punishment
Start with ranking penalties and slowly solve the problem

Giving players a penalty without fixing the reasons why players go AFK, or desert will kill the game more than the devs mismanagement already has. Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past these inept Devs since they’ve done a great job driving the game into the ground so far but still.

We use the word MM(matchmaking) or SBMM(skill-based matchmaking)

You misunderstood this metaphor

Like I said before, why don’t use things like chatgpt to recheck your words.

I try to stick it out and make them pay dearly for the win.

I have said this before, but punishment will not stop people from deserting. DF excuse for most things seems to be “We don’t have enough players”. So, if you don’t have enough players to begin with, what would be the advantage to forcing a deserter to wait 60 minutes to play another game? Lets see, I usually have 2 to 6 deserters a game, so given the amount of total players playing Enlisted, how many would that keep from the game at any one time? If I had to wait 60 minutes to play another game, i am going to go find something else to do. Do that enough times and people will finally be playing other games and not playing Enlisted.

If DF added strict desertion penalties, does anyone actually think forcing people to play will make them try any harder? No, if I really want to quit and don’t want a penalty, I can just go sit in a bunker with my troops and wait till the game is over, which helps no one. Which is worse, a player who DOES NOT want to be in the game and probably is not really trying, or a BOT?

Fix the reason people desert in the first place is the best place to start. Poor match making. Get rid of the soft rule and go to a 1/1 system FOR ALL FACTIONS. Give incentives for people to stay rather then penalizing them for leaving. There are a lot of times I am fed up and start thinking about deserting. What stops me? Not the fear of a penalty, but I zoom in on my daily objectives that DF gives me. However, the pure pathetic amount of silver and experience gained from being seal clubbed does not make it worth while to sit through it for most people. Your obviously going to take the loss, so why not desert and hope your next game is better.

Better match making, incentives instead of punishment would not stop desertion, but it will help more then penalties IMOP. Is a true 1/1 going to solve most seal clubbings? NO, but it will be one thing DF can do to get people to stop complaining about it. Me personally, I would also shit can the ranking system as well. But that is me. :yum: BTW, I will desert if I load up my level 3 Allies and get the Japanese and see I am in a level 5 match. Those are always seal clubbings per my experience, so why waste my time when I choose my BR3 Allies for a reason, to play a BR3 match.

Some matchups are decent to play and mostly well balanced but some are just really not worth playing.
Personaly i havent played the high BRs, but even on low ones some are specifically a strugle.

The ones i usually desert instead of playing the round:
Soviet BR I matched into Germany BR II: If you have a good pilot or BRII player its playable, if not you will just get freefarmed by Greyzoning PzIIIN, not to mention the Premium Paratroopers bringing MG-34 into BRI.

Germany BR II matched into Soviet BR III:Instant desert the gear gap is just too much again, PPSh-41, SVT-38, KV-1 they feel like BR IV Gear… German BR II gear is just no match, even BR III has a hard time.

And any BR III vs BRV: This MM is just plain stupid, even the OP Soviet BRIII suffers into BRV, devs should really make +/-1 a hard rule.

Also if DF will penalize desertion that would fix nothing, a player who want to desert will likely go AFK , or ignore the objective to lose faster and just farm some kills, as he wants the game to end quicker.

That would be a fast way to kill the game. If i would get a pointless garbage MM , destert & get a penalty like that it would be the end for my gaming session for the day.

Add some events on top which the players will fail due to this, or when they need to play multiple matches which is far away from enjoyable & you lost the player already due to fustration.

What i think might keep me in a bad MM with a guaranteed lose is a better EXP/Silver booster. Like if DF would give a 50%+ booster for the next game if you got double the avg score of your team on a lose , i would sure as hell stay till the end & fight over the objective even on a 100% sure lose.

If you think about it to the normal average impatient man. Why should I sit here for 10 or 15 minutes being totally frustrated getting my tail kicked, then get a couple small scraps of silver and experience for being someone else’s cannon fodder? It’s not fun which is why many people just desert and look for greener pastures with another game. Who cares if the losing team gets more silver and experience? It doesn’t cost any players or DF anything, but might help keep a few from deserting.

Yeah, Flat out I’m not staying for a total beat down ever. Matches that are close and then a loss happens sure because there is always a chance of winning. But if you’re struggling to cap the first point and your down to 300 tickets, peace out I’m done. If DF hasn’t fixed the problem and I get a penalty for it, cool, right click uninstall, one less bad game I have on my computer end of story

Was reporting a bug and to screenshot it I had to desert twice. Would felt completely unfair to get a 2x30 min waiting period.
Another time I was completing a semi-auto task and then forgot to remove the BR3 lineup from one of my soldiers and ended up against a bunch of BR5 instead of the desired BR2, and it did not feel fun in the first 10 minutes so I did not wait for our other 700 tickets in a battle where we barely can leave the spawn point and my rallies live for 5-10 seconds.

Also banning is not the only way - why ban cheaters and why give deserters a 30 min waiting period? Instead they could put cheaters into matches with other cheaters and bots ONLY. (So they could keep cheating with that account and not creating a new account unless they notice.) Same for deserters: if you really want to punish them, just give them a PvE match instead of a temporary ban.

I think with the current extremely limited match selection options and often broken matchmaking we have it’s a bad idea to punish deserters more than with scores.

The real question is why someone has to cheat in a free to play game in the first place. They gain nothing from it.

This does nothing but put unnecessary load on servers that already can’t manage the load of data that goes through them. Also, if you do something like this it will be viewed as catering to people who cheat and not dealing with them. Which is to remove them from the game completely.

Pretty sure that when your ban its IP side so there’s no making a new account to play again. If they don’t do this then this game is more messed up than I thought, and they deserve all the cheaters they have and then some.

I know you’re just giving suggestions with this but if I deserted a game and then clicked to reup into another game and was put into some janky PvE server I’d quit the game again. If I’m queuing for a PvP server I don’t want to play PvE. And yes, you can tell if you’re running around, and things just aren’t “Right” with your teammates and the other team. Bots in this game stick out like a big red flag against a white background, even if they try to hide them behind made up call signs.

Of course not!

The games are completely unbalanced.

I see no reason for a player to get stuck in a game already lost, just to give free points to the enemy team with real players.

I’m pretty sure there are ways around. But I’m not against banning cheaters.

Yep, I’m against deserter ban, just hinted on a third option between current (from my side welcomed) soft punishment and 60 min practically “never play it again” ban option. E.g. if you have 4-6 deserters/AFK/connection losses in 5 minutes, you as a deserter may not immediately notice a 3v3 match.

Sure, there are for websites that ban you, but when it’s a game that bans your IP that’s hardware. So, unless you’ve got the money and time to go out of “Your” way to change hardware. You’re not playing the game anymore. And if your caught and IP banned again, well there’s only some many times that changing hardware will work in “Your” favor. Bottomline is don’t cheat at a game, I mean it’s a game at the end of the day it doesn’t mean anything.

I’m just speaking for me on this but if I’m deserting 4-6 times its due to not wanting to play certain game modes that just so happen to get thrown at me back-to-back. And if that happens too frequently than I just close the game and do something else. I’m not gonna waste my time on the game at that point because the devs don’t care to put in an option for me to play the game modes I want to play. There are ways around an AFK getting picked up by the game, and since you can’t tell who anyone is when they are spawned you can’t report them for it. I wouldn’t AFK in a match that’s wasting my time even if a ban was going to happen, I’d leave the match. Connection lost thing is kind of harsh in my opinion, so times people play during light storms or what not and the power goes out for more than a few seconds. Or Maybe their ISP had a major failure/ someone hit an electric pole. Now these people are forced to play PvE? Also, only way a 3v3 match will work is if you get rid of the ability to pull up score screen. And if that happens than people will instantly know they are not in a normal match.

After reading all the posts, I summarize the following:

  1. The current state of the game only gives you the possibility to choose, at most, the country and in a certain way the level of the game (BRI to BR5), not the campaign, not the map, nor the game style, nor the number of human players vs bots.

  2. We agree that there are not enough players for the possibility that each one can play the country, the campaign, the level and the map and/or game mode that they like with mostly human teams that are balanced.

  3. I am against people who desert or stay AFK, but I can’t blame them if they are in an overwhelmingly uneven game and don’t want to waste time being cannon fodder so that others have “fun” among other causes of desertion such as not liking the campaign and/or map, or the game mode or being one of those who leave so as not to lose. The worst thing is that the desertion can cause a cascading effect on many human players.

  4. On the part of the game developers, I’m sure they don’t want players to leave or abandon matches, as the game needs players who want to keep playing by having good times.
A player can endure a certain amount of bad experience/torture in the game, but it should be the exception and not the rule
