Not sure if it’s been said before but tanks need some massive improvement. Currently, the tanks in this game have been imported from War Thunder and for the most part, handle and act the same way. The first of the issues has to be with the crew.
First off, there is no way to get new crew members if some of them are killed. Why are we not able to get new crew members? This is honestly a baffling decision on the developers part as even Gaijin, the PUBLISHER let’s you get new crew members in War Thunder. In a game where ONE TANK SHELL has the ability to take out half of your crew leaving you with only one crew member left (which happened more times than I can count) it makes absolutely no sense as to why we don’t have some way to replenish crew members. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of the problems with AI tank crews in this game.
Let’s say for example, you get shot. But luckily, your crew has survived! For now, it looks like the enemy tank that shot you is dead and the only obstacle around you are AI infantry. So, you take a look at the status of your tank and you see that you have to repair a tank tread. No problem, as all you need to do is avoid the enemy AI and make some quick repairs to your tank. But oh no, the entire crew gets out of the tank and gets themselves killed. Why is this? Why does the ENTIRE CREW GET OUT OF THE TANK? This is by far the worst part about AI crews that I think I’ve ever seen in this game. There is absolutely zero reason for your crew to get out of the tank when all you need to do is make some repairs. If devs insist on letting the entire crew disembark the tank then give some sort of bail out command or something. And if that isn’t bad enough, tanks still have more issues to deal with in this game.
For some ungodly reason, tanks in this game can’t go over trenches. I don’t understand this at all. In War Thunder, this is a non issue as every tank can go over trenches like nothing. Hell, this is the exact reason why tanks have treads in the first place. So why is it that in maps littered with trenches all over can tanks not go over them? If the devs couldn’t find a work around for this then there is a simple solution. Just let tanks go into third person like in War Thunder. Will this make the commander position in the tank damn near useless? Yes, but it also makes avoiding trenches and other obstacles the tank can get stuck on much easier. Personally I’m fine with this trade-off since most of the time I need to maneuver around something, it’s in the middle of more enemy infantry, but I doubt anyone else would agree with me on this.
Finally, we go into the final issue in this game. Personally, I have only run into this problem once but I can see it as a future problem down the line if not dealt with. In my honest opinion, there should be NO reason as to why a Puma which is a 2.7 battle rating tank can get queued up against a 4.0 battle rating Sherman. In my experience trying to fight it, I had no luck trying to pen it’s armor from the front and my only reason I could think of is because they reused the damage models in war thunder. So my final question is, why do the devs allow two vehicles which were never balanced around fighting each other able to get into the same match? Maybe I just got unlucky that one time and there’s a battle rating in the game I don’t know about? Well I’m not sure but I hope they improve it by the time the open beta ends.
To your last post, my understanding is that there just isn’t enough tanks in-game yet to actually balance them to each other. I mean, it also goes the other way around. If all the Americans have is their basic tank, and then panzer can utterly obliterate them.
IMO should just remove crew members being able to be killed as well, it creates too many gameplay issues in Enlisted. It’s cool, but porting this system from War Thunder just doesn’t feel right at all like you mentioned. Crew dying and you not being able to move your tank at all, crew getting out at inopportune times, useless crew like radioman, it’s all just stupid and pointless tbh. Just make AI tankers unkillable is the easy fix.
I feel like I would make an amendment to this; allow third person, but only when the commander is out of the hatch, so there’s risk vs reward for doing so and the enemy knows when you’re tping. Maybe also allow the commander to half peek out of the hatch instead of being fully in view all the time, then give that view the current first person commander view.
I honestly would rather tanks functioned more like bf5 or in world of tanks with health bars. You can still use armor to bounce shells, mitigate oncoming damage, and damage components, but the whole one shotting is kinda annoying in a fast paced game like this.
Because this is not War Thunder. If you loose your crew some other player can take their place. And that is enough. Why should you magicaly get new crew member in your destroyed tank in the middle of battlefield?
Yes, that one is sometimes wierd. But still you can deal with it until devs make that aspect better (remember that we are still in beta and lots of thing need tweaks and improvements). Jump out of the tank at the beggining of round and order your crew to get back. Then do the same. Next time you jump out the rest of the crew will stay inside.
NO THIRD PERSON. Again, its not War Thunder. Here tanks are on the same battlefield with infantry and thier biggest weakness in that situation is wore situational awareness. If you want some - get out of the hatch as commander (and risk getting shot in the head).
Trenches can be different. Those we have on the maps are just too wide for the tanks to cross. At least in Moscow, Normandy ones seem to be more narrow.
No battle rating. That is why some tanks like KV-1, T-34 or KV-2 in Moscow or Tigers and Jumbo in Normandy should never show up. To keep some balance.
giving better free looking camera for commander out of the hatch (without turret rotating) should be enough. No third person view should ever show up in Enlisted - commanders didn’t have drones looking over their tanks back then or eyes in the back of their heads.
Again - how is tank with health bar better than tank with actual damage model better? This is not Battlefield or WoT.
No this is not. Maybe , MAYBE if the game supported voice chat then it would be enough. Also, I’m not asking to “magically” get more crew members. Just simply a place to drive to (preferably near the main spawn) to get new crew members.
This only works sometimes if you can remember to do it every match. Maybe something to be added to the options?
If you play similar combined arms games like battlefield which do in fact, have third person tanks, they act the exact same way here. The only reason why this is here is for some added “realism” which is more of a hinderance to the gameplay then an effective way to gain immersion. Third Person would not change the gameplay at all and tanks will act the same.
Again, there is no balance so far when a 2.7 tank can queue up against a 4.0 tank.
It didn’t look like that. You brought War Thunder mechanic into disscussion where it is just magical crewmember appearing in the tank. I’m still against it, but it’s good that you clarified that.
Here I agree, that should be an option. I just gave you sugestion how to do it until devs come up with the solution.
This is realism, not “realism”. Tanks in Battlefield make no sense in that matter. Again, blindness it the most important weakness of the tank and taking it away makes them they become almost indestructable killing machines with no downsides. You sneaked up from behind to a tank shooting at your team and want to destroy it with explosive pack? Ha, no way - tank has “drone” levitating above it and sees your every move. It will very much change gameplay. There is no place for third person for vehicles in game that tries to be realistic - Battlefield doesn’t even try.
No, there isn’t. That is why I and many other users on this forum are against bringing more and more tanks, when every next will be more powerful than others (KV-1, T-34, Tiger in Normandy). This is why we want Jumbo removed - it is too strong. Other tanks can all pen each other one way or another, sometimes it just requires more thinking.
No, tanks in this game are not realistic. If it was realistic, then there would be no magic redical telling you where the weak spots are on tanks. There would also be no camera in the enemy tank you just penned telling you where your shot landed and if you killed a crew member.
Still much more realistic than those in Battlefield. I have nothing against removing penetration indicator and camera if that would make you happy.
And what is realistic is that they must cautious and (ideally) use infantry cover, because it is very easy to die if you encounter a player who knows what he is doing. Rushing with your tank is asking for a detpack thrown under your tracks (another thing is that most of the playerbase don’t know that they should cook those detpacks yet).
Also, this isn’t the fucking WoT third person camera I’m talking about either. With a normal battlefield or war thunder camera, infantry can still very well sneak up behind enemy tanks. It really isn’t a big deal that your making it out to be.
Gonna disagree with you here. In battlefield the third person on tanks makes it near impossible to get killed by infantry that have to get close to kill you unless you’re a bad player.Being able to just do a quick 360 scan when sitting in a field every 30 seconds means that no infantry will ever be able to kill you in Enlisted.
It is. Again - Warthunder has no infantry so it can ignore tanks biggest downside in that matter. Battlefield is pure arcade.
Enlisted is meant to be realistic (realistic =/= simulator). That is why devs went for only first person view.
Im getting tired of Russian tanks being unsoppble and being able to shoot through walls or other indestructble objects, while the germans tanks cant scratch a Russian tank
