Tanks and trenches

This is not a new one, I guess.

Recently I had a couple of battles with a player that immensely struggled with trenches when she was in a tank.

Here’s one example of all situations when she got stuck:

Any plans to make it easier for tanks traveling over trenches?

I don’t think anything can fix this paperbox tank physics. WT has exactly the same problem. All tanks just feels like theirs weight is ±1kg.

And this is outcome.

This player uses completely wrong technique to cross a trench.

You have to drive perpendicularly to the trench. Then you will have no problems.

Yeah, sure. She’s known for being a bad tanker. But still.

Wasn’t this “fixed” btw? A couple of months ago?

Remember a time when you could easily cross trenches without getting stuck. Even with the weakest of tanks.

Worked for me like a month ago in stalingrad (starter PzIII).

In warthunder tanks used to be able to drive up really steep inclines and such, but they nerfed it to avoid some of the creative vantage points.

But yeah that video shows my biggest qualm with tanks. They should just push aside or crush smaller obsticles without even breaking stride.

You haven’t seen BFV
Recently I’ve player “last tiger” single player campaign and I’ve learned that shots to the sides cause the 60t tank to tilt about 30°

Edit

LIKE THOSE STUPID BUSHES

(I also like the name of the tank in that video)

here’s another (better) example of this ludicrous:

Similar moments are just ridiculous. 10/10

I just tested ths.
Results are:

I guess this is the issue:

Yeah, and Stalingrad is not even that bad because its shy with trenches.
Try Berlin, Tiergarten is basically moon drive while the area between Göring’s office and Reich ministry garden is a tank nightmare filled with trenches and Flak 88s tank traps.
I lost more than a dozen tank attempting to drive over trenches, so my approach is going around them even if you miss out half the match.

The trenches aren’t even the biggest problem. There’s a lot of little micro junk objects that you only notice when you’re irrevocably stopped/blocked for good.

Got unstuck few moments later thanks to the Flakpanzer then died instantly to 45, 10/10 experience, would recommend!

Dude, skill issue, you have to flank the trench and attack it from the side, just throw some smoke or use a plane.

indeed a skill issue :upside_down_face:

Short answer: only drive over the trenches on the steel bridges, or if your tank is a Churchill(because long boi). Anything else, go around.

Long answer: if you desperately want to go over a trench, meet it perfectly perpendicular. Most tanks the same size or greater than a Panzer III can clear most trenches if you go perpendicular to it. Some trenches are a bit wider like the ones in Stalingrad so you have to watchout for that, and tanks like the Stuart and Ha Go simply just get fucked by trenches (although you can often drive in the trenches with those tanks so maybe have some fun with them that way). The posts sometimes do get in the way so you have to drive between them. So basically learn the width of trench in the game and then learn which tanks can drive over each trench and where to drive over each trench.

Have fun.

Even when doing this though the only tanks I’ve seen able to make it are the really fast moving tanks such as Puma and Hellcat, and the outlier being the Churchill is very adept at it too.

Especially when maps don’t let you escape from hordes of zombi lemmings with dummpacks
